Clowney gets another speeding ticket

As defensive end Jadeveon Clowney counts down his launch to the NFL, he perhaps should go a little easier on the rocket fuel.

For the second time this month, Clowney has been ticketed for speeding in South Carolina.  According to the State, Clowney received a $445 ticket Thursday morning for allegedly driving 84 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone.

Coach Steve Spurrier addressed the situation while also making it even more obvious that Clowney will be leaving the school with two years of eligibility remaining.

“I tell you, he needs to go to driving school doesn’t he?” Spurrier said at a press conference in Orlando conducted in connection with the team’s upcoming bowl game appearance.  “At least he’ll have enough money to pay for it in a week or so. Hopefully, they’ll send him [to driving school] after the bowl game.”

Clowney previously was cited for driving 110 miles per hour, 40 mph above the posted limit.

The good news is he may not get any more tickets in the near future.  Because he was exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 miles per hour on both occasions, he faces a maximum point penalty of six for each of the events, which could trigger a suspension of his license by putting him at 12 points.

Wouldn’t be that concerned if he actually performed on the field.

He has talent, sure, but whereas once he was a can’t-miss guy, he’s now boom-or-bust.

    Fifty-fifty.

I hope this kid falls out of top 5. There is no way he will because of raw talent but he’s so aware of how awesome people think he’ll be so he doesn’t care about being a “good character” or having the intangibles.

Everything’s been handed to this kid and he’s probably going to end up throwing it away, like Good Will Hunting but where he stays as a janitor.

Top 5 pick to top 25pick to 2nd round

  4. gdive says: Dec 26, 2013 6:35 PM

Well at least he’ll know what kind of questions he’ll be getting at the NFL combine interviews.

Clown-ey just locked up being picked in the 1st round by the lavender Larry clowns in the Land of 10k Trailer Park Cesspools. He a sure bet to quickly add to Minnysoda’s league leading player arrest record.

What wrong with this guy? Say out if the media until May comes around.

  7. doctorrustbelt says: Dec 26, 2013 6:40 PM

Go on and write me up for 125

Post my face… wanted dead or alive

Take my license… all that jive

    I can’t drive 55 ! ! ! ! !

  8. Sir Raider Duck, OMS says: Dec 26, 2013 6:41 PM

Let’s see now: A guy who sits out games his coach says he could have played, keeps giving inconsistent effort, and who can’t even take the basic step of avoiding speeding tickets.

Sounds like a real winner to spend a high first-rounder on.

  9. zam0854 says: Dec 26, 2013 6:41 PM

Still a top 3 pick. Don’t matter what he does, as long as he is healthy.

  10. nfl4days says: Dec 26, 2013 6:42 PM

Im sure spurriers got it covered. I bet he pays for Clowney’s gas too.

  11. stoney18 says: Dec 26, 2013 6:47 PM

Whoever drafts this “Clown-ey” shouldn’t be surprised when the wheels come off. I’m thinking a performance and behavior-based contract for this guy because you know someone WILL draft him. Bet Spurrier is glad to see him go elsewhere.

Breaking: Clowney arrested for driving with suspended license

  13. tjacks7 says: Dec 26, 2013 6:52 PM

Can’t wait to see this guys wonderlic score. Might be in the negative.

  14. tmcb7 says: Dec 26, 2013 6:53 PM

The beauty of it is, Jadeveon probably thinks it’s no big deal and doesn’t effect his draft status!
    (bwah-ha-ha… ok then)

  15. dukeearl says: Dec 26, 2013 6:54 PM

Somehow I think he’ll be caught speeding again.

  16. coloneldukelacross says: Dec 26, 2013 6:54 PM

This guy gets caught speeding and he wasn’t drunk, high or packing the heat? Clearly not NFL material.

  17. scottishram says: Dec 26, 2013 6:57 PM

    Do. Not. Draft.

  18. uglydingo says: Dec 26, 2013 6:58 PM

Jadeveon only knows one speed. Imagine when he has the disposable cash to purchase any car that he wants. This is not just a speed warning.

  19. douchebigelow says: Dec 26, 2013 7:04 PM

84? That’s probably a lot higher than his IQ

  20. ralphwilsonisrich says: Dec 26, 2013 7:04 PM

Rolando McClain ring a bell clowney?

  21. ravenswhat says: Dec 26, 2013 7:05 PM

This guy is obviously lacking a brain. I would absolutely shy away from him as a GM at this point. He prob has people screaming at him to just lay low and he’s STILL making dumb mistakes BEFORE the draft?? Imagine what he’ll do when he signs his contract?

  22. rubenxx7 says: Dec 26, 2013 7:05 PM

he may get more arrests than kenny britt

  23. melikefootball says: Dec 26, 2013 7:07 PM

NFL should beware with this guy, he doesn’t learn from the past. I had more respect for Steve to not punish this kid in some manner, bowl game or not.

  24. aldante66 says: Dec 26, 2013 7:10 PM

No judge is putting a black guy with a potential job out of work with no licence

  25. aldante66 says: Dec 26, 2013 7:11 PM

The Lions should be looking at him

  26. dionoil says: Dec 26, 2013 7:13 PM

In fairness, it’s really easy to get a ticket in SC. I can’t ever get back and forth from Myrtle Beach without getting stopped.

  27. rg3andthensome says: Dec 26, 2013 7:21 PM

Keep getting tix until you fall to the Skins…So we can trade you.

  28. boobschannel says: Dec 26, 2013 7:23 PM

i’m so sick of these guys getting away with this stuff…

when i lived in phoenix, i’d pass cops doing 5-10 mph over the speed limit all the time, and they don’t care that much about it.

but in arizona, you get to the 20+ mph over the speed limit, and it’s an automatic felony.

just because the guy can play football (at least so they say, i mean he has 1 noteworthy play in 2 years, and sat out almost all this year), he’s got a get out of jail free card.

this guy is the reason we pay outrageous car insurance prices.

  29. mackcarrington says: Dec 26, 2013 7:24 PM

And he’s doing this with a Chrysler 300?
When he gets his cash he’ll probably buy a Porsche or a Lambo.
Hope he doesn’t end up wrapped around a tree somewhere.

  30. phiddysent says: Dec 26, 2013 7:27 PM

And after all of the issues mentioned above…he will still be a top 10 pick. I’ll guarantee that. Most of the teams picking in the top 10 are in that top 10 every year. Some stupid GM will fall in love with him and his “up side/ceiling” and draft him. However…should he fall to 15 or so, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Patriots trade up to take him. That’s the one place I could see him meeting his potential.

  31. mizzousooner says: Dec 26, 2013 7:28 PM

Its all fun and games, till this genius slams into a school bus.

  32. nickynick04 says: Dec 26, 2013 7:29 PM

    Jerome Brown

Hes trying to race his draft stock down hill and still losing

  34. maritime85 says: Dec 26, 2013 7:43 PM

    The 110 is excessive…but the 84 in a 55…sounds like a highway so whatev

  35. corkspop says: Dec 26, 2013 7:43 PM

Top 5 pick. Teams can always hire a driver for him. Will probably be a Raider next year.

  36. onlyoneleft says: Dec 26, 2013 7:51 PM

This guy has no brain and has been given everything he wants while in high school and at South Carolina. Spurrier is not a disciplinarian and lets these guys run wild all over the town. i am surprised that he was even ticketed. i bet the arresting officer is discipled by the Columbia Police Dept.

  37. salscobrakai says: Dec 26, 2013 7:52 PM

Yeah, because NFL players never drive on a suspended license…

  38. marylandchief says: Dec 26, 2013 7:57 PM

Stupid is as stupid does. Immaturity is one thing. Immaturity and stupidity is a serious problem.

  39. fordmandalay says: Dec 26, 2013 8:01 PM

How many Clowneys were in that little car?

  40. liamj55 says: Dec 26, 2013 8:02 PM

These comments are hilarious. Remember when Burfict fell out of the draft??? Good times…Clowns

  41. ninerswilldominatelikebefore says: Dec 26, 2013 8:04 PM

i wish he’d go undrafted, not going to happend i know. He feels entitled, he has all the raw talent in the world but he will squander it all unless he surrounds himself around good/smart people not the ghetto boys from the hood.

  42. themiamidolphins says: Dec 26, 2013 8:38 PM

Guys, he got two speeding tickets. It’s not always bad people who get speeding tickets for driving at a speed way above the limit.

This shouldn’t be a story when the best part of football (NFL and NCAA) is looming.

  43. ajgreenhof says: Dec 26, 2013 8:42 PM

Whatever team gets him is about to get a handful I bet.

He hasn’t even gotten paid yet.

  44. pfic15 says: Dec 26, 2013 8:53 PM

I really don’t like this kid.

  45. buzzponti says: Dec 26, 2013 9:48 PM

i see the Raiders or Seahawks overpaying for this guy.

  46. jpalughi823 says: Dec 26, 2013 9:58 PM

this has Jerome Brown written all over it unless he gets his act together

  47. officialgame says: Dec 26, 2013 10:11 PM

At the rate Clowney is going he will be lucky to get a job in the circus.

  48. granadafan says: Dec 26, 2013 10:20 PM

The real question to ask how Clowney managed to stay eligible at south Carolina. Hearing this guy in interviews there’s no way he is college material. Spurrier wouldn’t be pulling some strings now, would he?

  49. jacobslatter says: Dec 26, 2013 10:37 PM

Someone like Spurrier or his mother should have handed Clowney a newspaper clipping of Thomas Howard. It can all come to an end just like that.

  50. annes22 says: Dec 26, 2013 10:39 PM

Suspend him before he actually kills someone. He is obviously a complete idiot. Welcome to the NFL where you can join the other idiots, who can’t drive either.

  51. jerrysglassescleaner says: Dec 26, 2013 10:58 PM

Oh yea, he is Raider bound for sure

  52. blackbeard43 says: Dec 26, 2013 11:02 PM

I wouldn’t mind him becoming a raider at all..and I also believe he’ll go in the top 5.

Even though he has these issues the dude’s talented and whichever team drafts him will have an instant impact player on defense.

  53. i10east says: Dec 26, 2013 11:45 PM

Last time the magic number was 70 (MPH) over; This time, it’s ‘only’ 29. Well, atleast he’s showing some progress in the right direction…

  54. joetoronto says: Dec 27, 2013 4:20 AM

This turd has red flags coming out of his ying yang.

Whatever team drafts him will deserve the problems that come with him.

  55. rcali says: Dec 27, 2013 3:26 PM

This is going to be a great pick for the Jags.
