Jets, Giants shut out of Pro Bowl

Twenty-seven of 32 NFL teams have at least one initial representative for the 2014 Pro Bowl.

Then there are the Falcons, Packers, Jaguars, Jets and Giants, who each didn’t have a single player among the 86 Pro Bowl selections named Friday night.

In the case of Atlanta and Green Bay, injuries had something to do with the lack of Pro Bowl representation. One obvious example: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was playing at a Pro Bowl level when injured in November. Also, Falcons wideout Julio Jones made the Pro Bowl last year and looked on his way to another outstanding campaign before suffering a season-ending foot injury.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are in rebuilding mode. While they have played hard for coach Gus Bradley, and while their future appears bright, they don’t have any real standouts right now.

This brings us to the Jets and Giants, teams with good defenses and shaky offenses. Were either club to have a representative, it would seem most likely to come on the defensive side of the ball. Moreover, it’s possible both teams could eventually have a player or two added to the club; the Pro Bowl talent pool is always subject to change.

Nevertheless, for now, the Giants and Jets are not only going to be home for the playoffs, but none of their players are Hawaii-bound.

The only Giant that got overlooked was Rolle. No one else played any better than average.

  2. thejrod2006 says: Dec 27, 2013 10:14 PM

Giants certainly didn’t deserve to have a Pro Bowl representative….

  3. green41563 says: Dec 27, 2013 10:18 PM

Mo Wilkerson didn’t make the Pro Bowl?

I mean, I know the Pro Bowl’s a joke, but this is a real laugher.

can I get a lacy? or jordy? jeez whaddya gotta do.

  5. mataug says: Dec 27, 2013 10:42 PM

weird stat for the day – through 15 games, both teams have similar point totals!
    Giants – 274 for, 377 against
    Jets – 270 for, 380 against

  6. micknangold says: Dec 27, 2013 10:42 PM

this is outrageous. Mo Wilkerson is the best DE in the NFL.

  7. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Dec 27, 2013 10:46 PM

Someone should have made it from these teams like….Uh gonna have to get back with you.

  8. Eli on Injured Reserve says: Dec 27, 2013 10:48 PM

Popularity contest, once again. Eli Manning should definitely have made the Pro Bowl, and should be in major consideration for League MVP.

What other quarterback has been more generous in spreading the ball around. He has been voted Game MVP for every team that he has played this year. Not one team, zero, zilch, notta, has had anything bad to say about him all year long, except for maybe the NJ Giants.

    Where is the justice?

  9. rex2013mvp says: Dec 27, 2013 10:49 PM

If Mo Wilkerson is not a Pro Bowler, then the voting process is a bigger joke than the actual game!

  10. jonsilver1947 says: Dec 27, 2013 11:00 PM

Wilkerson belongs, Ngata does not (based on 2013)…

  11. Davo says: Dec 27, 2013 11:06 PM

But…wait…I thought Eli Manning was elite?!?!

  12. commonsensedude says: Dec 27, 2013 11:36 PM

Don’t feel too bad, G-men. Your squad has several players who talk trash at the Pro Bowl level.

  13. irateninjas says: Dec 28, 2013 12:00 AM

Rolle and Richardson both deserved bids. Rolle has been the heart and soul of the Gmen and leads all safeties in ints. Meanwhile Richardson has made a strong case for droy.

  14. schaefermic says: Dec 28, 2013 12:09 AM

Unbelievable Muhammad Wilkerson did not get in. He’s been lights out this entire year.

  15. tiproast says: Dec 28, 2013 12:18 AM

The Jets have given up more points than the other three teams in the AFC East, and no one claims those defenses are good.

  16. helix828 says: Dec 28, 2013 12:21 AM

Mo Wilkerson was robbed. For real.

  17. bigbosscrispy says: Dec 28, 2013 12:24 AM

    2013 NYG season = poop
    sMh……

  18. emaney477 says: Dec 28, 2013 12:38 AM

How did Wilkerson not make it. He had a stellar season

  19. jetsjetsjetsnow says: Dec 28, 2013 1:07 AM

Yeah right as if Wilkerson doesn’t belong there…

Another joke of an NFL process…

  20. stoney18 says: Dec 28, 2013 1:19 AM

These teams are so bad that the city won’t even let them play IN the city! And have relegated them to land in New Jersey that nobody else wants. At least the Meadowlands will see some real football when the Super Bowl is played.

  21. weekendwarriorko says: Dec 28, 2013 1:41 AM

I’ll admit that I am a Giants fan, but Antrel Rolle has been playing lights out this year. I thought he at least had a chance.

  22. eastwoodchair says: Dec 28, 2013 2:06 AM

that’s cuz they’re be too busy serving drinks to staten islanders wit pauly d & snookie at the bon jovi north jerzee super bowl partee

  23. billmead1976 says: Dec 28, 2013 2:46 AM

I think if Mark Sanchez doesn’t get hurt in the pre-season, he would be a pro bowler this year.

  24. monropoobah says: Dec 28, 2013 4:55 AM

    so who took wilkerson’s spot?

  25. soytureyna says: Dec 28, 2013 6:41 AM

That just means none of their players will be put at risk in a game that nobody watches and is completely pointless. They should consider themselves lucky

  26. Roger Emeka says: Dec 28, 2013 8:10 AM

Sitton and Dietrech-Smith were absoltely robbed. Best guard-center duo this season.

  27. hehateme2 says: Dec 28, 2013 8:12 AM

    LMAO!

  28. jpalughi823 says: Dec 28, 2013 9:27 AM

not a fan of either team but Wilkerson got the shaft

  29. abcdjcrews says: Dec 28, 2013 10:00 AM

Both NY teams got shut out?!?

In a game, YES! *Giants – see week 3 and week 15 — Jets – see week 12 and 13 (not shutouts but close enough when your kicker is your best player).

But for the Pro Bowl? Say it isn’t so…

Well at least you still have the Yankees, wait, ummmm…

There is always ice skating for NY fans!

One player does not make a team, just look at the Minnesota Vikings.

  30. wnstonchill says: Dec 28, 2013 11:08 AM

A team will never grow past the level of coaching it’s equipped with. For the Jets, what a sad case this is.
They’re not booming with great talent, but they are handcuffed by a head coach who needs to be FIRED and never re-hired, ANYWHERE!!!

  31. finsblood13 says: Dec 28, 2013 11:12 AM

Maybe Wilkerson didnt make it cause the jets stink! Are the jets still in the nfl?? Go Fins!!

  32. thealmightybigblue says: Dec 28, 2013 11:24 AM

The nfl should be ashamed of not putting antrel rolle one of the top 3 safeties in the nfl for one of the most dominant franchises in the nfl…#Ny>probowl

  33. patriots123456 says: Dec 28, 2013 11:43 AM

So the rest of the League has Clownphobia…

    No clowns in the pro-bowl…

  34. aldante66 says: Dec 28, 2013 12:02 PM

Didn’t Geno make the pro bowl. I thought he set a record this year for interceptions in a game, or season?
No Packer made it either and that’s also a good thing and shows, people making the picks know something about football.

  35. kindbass says: Dec 28, 2013 12:04 PM

Hey, at least you guys have the Nets and Knicks, right?

  36. rboutote says: Dec 28, 2013 12:23 PM

Such a disgrace. Say what you want about the Jets, but Mo Wilkerson is THE best D end in football hands down. And nick Folk won like four games this yr at the gun lol Has only one miss all season in windy Buffalo. Prater gets in cause of one goddamn kick at like 10,000 feet above sea level with the wind at his back. Ridiculous.

  37. skittlesareyum says: Dec 28, 2013 12:35 PM

Wilkerson got robbed. Josh Sitton too. He’s the only decent o-lineman on that team, and he’s easily one of the best guards in the entire league. Before you thumbs down check out any sites that rank players.

  38. finsblood13 says: Dec 28, 2013 12:43 PM

    Cameron Wake > Wilkerson

  39. nyjalleffingday says: Dec 28, 2013 5:01 PM

    @finsblood13

    Mohammed Wilkerson:
    62 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 1 INT

    Cameron Wake
    35 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 0 INT

    —————————–
Yep – We all know Aaron Rodgers/Randall Cobb/Finley/Clay/Lattimore/Daniels/Jolly
    /Sitton/EDS/Lang/Jones/Jordy/
    Lacy/Kuhn/Casey/Shields
    are all complete garbage.

  41. sdelmonte says: Dec 28, 2013 7:38 PM

With 86 spots on the team, why can’t there be at least one player from every club?

  42. ohnoflorio says: Dec 29, 2013 12:59 AM

The jets are REBUILDING they were supposed to be 4-12 -ish. They ended up w/a shot at .500 heading into week 17. They have immense talent on defense & Wilkerson & Richardson got snubbed, even Snacks Harrison….
