Patriots release Austin Collie yet again

Austin Collie hasn’t spent much time with the Patriots, but he’s quickly becoming a regular on their transaction list.

The Patriots announced they cut the veteran wide receiver Friday, for a second time this season. While that doesn’t exactly make him Ross Ventrone, he’s now in the loop.

Collie played one snap last week, after being brought back for cover when they were hit with injuries at the position. But with Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson healthy, he was surplus to requirements.

The Patriots have two open roster spots after cutting cornerback Marquice Cole yesterday.

Collie looked like he could have made something of himself in the league like fellow former Colt Pierre Garçon, but Peyton kept trying to kill him.

    Paging Randy Moss.

Two roster spots open now…Moss and Ben Coates?

Well, at least hooking on late in the season & getting practice/game reps without a concussion might allow him to catch on with a team for the 2014 season.

This is what Belichick does. He brings in various “shadow roster” guys as interchangeable role players for later in the season when injuries are going to require some depth.

He’ll rotate these guys from week to week depending on the need and the game plan for the week’s opponent.

Jealous fans of other teams decry such moves – or will assert there is something illegal about it – but Belichick’s success is clear.

The Patriots have had as many if not more injuries than other teams and they are 11-4 and vying for a bye. Other supposedly elite teams with fewer injuries are 7-8 or 6-9 and vying for an early golf season.

Brady is a difference maker to be sure but it’s the quality depth that allows Belichick to be a perennial Super Bowl contender even in the midst of a re-building mode.

So much respect for this guy. Less exposure to the offense than any WR on the team and he’s money every time they go to him even in the clutch.

Football is a tough game. The Broncos receivers seem to be doing fine with Manning as QB.

Some receivers just have a penchant for injuries.

Austin Collie’s face is the definition of “injury prone”. He’s brain will rot by 55.

“Hey, that was fun,” said Bill Belichick. “Tell you what, let’s sign Collie and cut him again.”

Cheap BB and Pats shots. They will sign him back on Monday after 1-2 WRs drop/get hurt yet again.

Pats fan but I dont think such cheap shots can win Super Bowl

You guys do realize that he got paid for the week, right? If the Pats wanted to be cheap they would have cut him on Monday or Tuesday.

The Pats probably have a safe house near the stadium for their stash of cuts and older free agents that they can call up. Keep them fed and paid and they are always around.
