The Broncos need a win to nail down home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, but they won’t have Wes Welker helping them get it.
Welker returned to practice this week, but has been ruled out for the third straight game because of the concussion he suffered against the Titans in Week 14. Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports that Welker will travel with the team to Oakland, though, which suggests that they aren’t concerned about travel leading to a recurrence of symptoms this weekend.
It also suggests that Welker will be in the lineup when the Broncos open up their playoff campaign. Jacob Tamme and Eric Decker handled slot duties for Denver last week with Andre Caldwell filling in outside, an alignment that will likely be in play again against the Raiders.
Defensive end Derek Wolfe has also been ruled out after making his return to practice this week. Wolfe has been out since falling ill on the bus to the airport for a trip to Kansas City in Week 13. Cornerback Kayvon Webster is questionable to return from the broken thumb that has sidelined him in recent weeks.
