The only thing the Redskins have to play for at the moment is the chance to avoid giving the Rams the first overall pick in the draft, an effort that won’t include linebacker Brian Orakpo.
Orakpo is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Giants because of a groin injury that limited him in practice on Friday. That means Orakpo’s year ends with 10 sacks, nine tackles for losses and an interception return for a touchdown in 15 games.
It could also mean that he has played his final game for the Redskins. Orakpo is set to become a free agent after the season which didn’t give him much incentive to push himself in a game without any positive ramifications for Washington.
Predicting what the Redskins might do is difficult given the uncertain future of Mike Shanahan and the rest of the team’s coaching staff. His strong rebound from a torn pectoral muscle in 2012 should have plenty of suitors ready to offer Orakpo tidy sums should he get to the open market.
