Browns considering a Sunday night meeting with Chudzinski

With rumors and reports and speculation running rampant that the Browns will fire coach Rob Chudzinski during a meeting planned for Monday, the Browns currently are considering the possibility of adjusting the timetable.

Per a league source, the Browns currently are considering moving the meeting to Sunday night.

If it happens, that would tend to suggest that the decision will be to fire Chudzinski, the first-year coach whose team won only one of 11 games to end the season.

It’s unclear whether the entire staff would be fired with Chudzinski, or whether any assistants will be retained for evaluation by his successor.

  1. If Chud goes, look for Turner to go. The FO will probably keep Horton in his same role, or elevate him and let him bring some of his former Steeler and Cardinal pals.

  2. this would be the dumbest move in a long line of moves for Cleveland. Yes the results weren’t what we hoped but he’s a hometown guy who has brought an energy to the team. it was his first year as a head coach and the team was actually competitive in 90% of the games which isn’t the norm, the offense produced 4 Pro Bowlers dispite having the 3rd string QB most of the year.
    The problem in Cleveland has been turnover. Coaches, QB’s, front office. we were told that was going to stop under this new regime.

  3. Modell fired Paul Brown more than 50 years ago. Since then, Cleveland fans have seen a few wildly exciting teams, dozens of poor ones, and no championships. Two things for sure: every coach and GM through the revolving door gets paid, and “loyal” fans will pay for anything that is brown and stinky (just like Modell taught them to do).

  4. This has to be be the work of LomTardi if its going down like this. I get the desire to turn it around quickly but there would be moving name that would be willing to work with a FO as impatient and unprofessional as this. If this article is right then the only logical conclusion for HC would be Wiz while Horton stays

    In my opinion the ST coord should be canned, wr coach and dline/lb coaches should be put on notice. The team is just not right from top to bottom

  5. 3rd string QB, starting (32 year old) RB picked up off the street, Gordon excels and doesn’t get arrested, defense is top 5……and they’re gonna fire the guy? This is why the Browns perpetually suck. What did you expect out of this team anyway?

  6. I don’t think Horton has any Cardinals pals who will come to Cleveland. Arians/Bowles didn’t have any holdovers as defensive coaches and all the defensive players are happy with Bowles.

    Horton has a decent shot as a Head Coach some day…. Hopefully for his sake not at Cleveland.

  7. Firing Chud would just be another in a long line of stupid moves Jimmy Haslam has made since buying the Browns. Right up there with giving Joe Banner the keys to the franchise and letting Mike Lombardi run the personnel.

    This might be the most dysfunctional franchise in all of pro sports rivaling the LA Clippers.

  8. I’ll be a Browns fan my whole life, but man they make it hard. Why are all these leaks allowed to happen? Whoever talked should be following Chud out the door. It’s all but done now. They better have a big name ready to join, and I don’t mean McDaniels or O’Brien.

    Their offseason is when the football games are played, and the real season is when no football is played so all the old front office geezers can play the politics/backstabbing/horsetrading games they really love.

  10. Not a Browns fan, but this just doesn’t make sense. I think he’s done a pretty good job. It’s not his fault Hoyer tore his ACL, and Weeden and Campbell aren’t the answers.

  12. Bad move. The guy was handed a QB that wasn’t any good. Handed a RB that was traded away (rightfully) because the FO decided he was no good.
    They had only two playmakers on offense if you count the slightly above average TE.

    On the other hand, one of the ways to look at if a coach should be fired is to consider if he will be seriously considered for any of the other openings that appear. It’s not the only consideration, but if other teams are not even going to look at your guy (Schwartz) lean towards letting him go.

  13. So some idiot in management let it leak that Coach is fired after not being able to do the impossible. Now they try to run damage control on Sunday night instead of Monday morning, like it even matters…

    I am an NFC West fan so I don’t really read or see about these guys.

    That sounds like madness. Unless your owner can resurrect Vince Lombardi, this is a stupid, short-sighted, pig-headed move.

    But hey, AFC.

  15. Why would anyone ever believe Banner? He made the proclamation that last year’s changes would ‘be the last for quite some time’.

    And why would any coach want to work in an organization where the personnel department was run by Lombardturd? Fired Five Times. And look at this year…openly not pleased with We Done; they drafted an underachieving linebacker with the sixth overall pick. Called Josh Gordon ‘a wasted pick’. Drafted a CB in the third round that was so bad he couldn’t get any meaningful snaps until the last two games and only then because of injuries. Past the opportunity to pick up other talent and added nothing but low end roster fillers.

    So now these Clowns are disappointed enough to fire the coach.

    You keep thinking it couldn’t get any worse in Cleveland, then it gets worse.

    Hopefully Haslam gets indicted; convicted and banned. And the new owner can get rid of these circus clowns!

    1 year, with a garbage 1st round QB bust that was forced on him, and injuries to the 2 QB’s on the depth chart better than the 1st round bust.

    And they are going to fire him already?

    No wonder this franchise is such a joke!

  19. Banner and Lombardi, excuse maker twins. Using their first round pick on a 2 down outside linebacker in 13. Can’t wait to see the disappointing picks they choose with 2 firsts a second and 2 thirds. And to think the Steelers were an over time field goal away from an 8-8 playoff appearance. Please someone guide them…

  20. Is the Brown’s perpetually awful management feeling one upped by Dan Snyder this year or something? To “catch up”, they feel the need to do something incredibly stupid and disrespectful to keep pace?

    Team wasn’t terrible. Record isn’t great, but neither is the level of talent.

    And the same goes for the Redskins…why would any decent coach want to join these organizations? You basically have the guillotine over your head from day 1, and your fate is handcuffed to an idiot called the “owner”.

  21. Turnover at Head Coach is the problem, not the solution. If the Browns hope to get anything going they need to stay consistent with the Head Coach to establish some semblance of continuity with players, game plan scheme, draft and learning how to win. As a 50 year Browns fan it angers some of my friends when I point to the Pittsburgh Steelers as the model for how to run a franchise, but it is all too true.

    Sacking the Head Coach means the new guy will come in and draft players for HIS idea of what should be done on the field, the current players will need to learn that and “fit” of they’ll be gone and the owner and hammer-headed fans will expect the new guy to have a winning season and be competitive immediately.

    It’s actually maddening, like some sick freakin’ merry-go-round.

  22. He was stuck with Weedon and Campbell and Hoyer and no one at Running back.

    Get him a QB and a HB and this team is playoff caliber. (example; 2012 and 2013 Chiefs).

  23. Defense is rolling pretty well and when they elevated QB play all the way up to Brian Hoyer they won games.

    They need to provide a new coach who is too good to miss out on AND a justifiable reason why Chud wasn’t working because based on results he was worth another year.

    Hoyer and a rookie QB in competition plus a talented rookie runner (who should be able to be found in mid-late draft rounds) and all of a sudden you’ve got a team capable of getting towards .500. That’s an achievement for the Browns.

  24. Let’s face it: The Browns’ problem is not Chudzinski. The problem is Cleveland. Four teams have never appeared in a Super Bowl (Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans). Two of these teams are expansion franchises. The city has not had a professional sports team championship in nearly 50 years. Wake up Browns fans. Your are simply destined for failure.
