Chiefs, Chargers head to overtime tied at 24

San Diego Chargers v Kansas City Chiefs Getty Images

Much to the relief of the Chargers, there will be overtime football in San Diego on Sunday afternoon.

With a chance to give the Chiefs a three-point lead in the final seconds, Kansas City kicker Ryan Succop’s 41-yard field goal sailed wide right.

As a result, the Chargers and Chiefs ended regulation deadlocked at 24 apiece.

A win or tie will put the Chargers in the postseason as a wild-card entrant.

The Chargers will get the ball first in overtime.

Please no Steelers in the playoffs. Anybody but the Steelers.

Didn’t we tell you this was God’s will? Even after starting 0-4 we told you this would happen. Even some of my fellow Steeler fans disregarded our confidence in The Prophecy. Well, to those “fans,” go root for the Browns because you are nothing but bandwagoners.

This is a group built on mental toughness. We persevere when all odds are against us. That’s why our legacy is what it is. That’s why no one else has six Lombardis.

Oh, how glorious is this? Would we have it any other way? This is The Prophecy to the letter. Oh, glory!

Here comes Lombardi #7. Afterwards, of course, we launch the much anticipated SFL.

I’m sure you’ll doubt us again, but by now you should know better.

As you can see, the refs are doing everything it can to keep the Steelers out. They will ultimately fail. This is God’s will.

Chase Daniels might manage to do what Alex Smith could not – beat a playoff contender.

And Daniels doesn’t even have Jamaal Charles to carry the offense.

Lemons, you’re right. Chiefs look like the easy target right now.

Shame on you Chargers. The Chiefs are sitting 20 of 22 starters TWENTY!!! And Chiefs 2nd string is making you look bad. Even if you make it, you don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. But neither do the Steelers.

Apparently, God bet on the Chargers this week.

Enjoy your break from playoff football, Steelerfan.

On that fake punt attempt, they don’t blow the whistle when he’s initially stopped, they let SD keep pushing the pile forward, then when the ball is stripped, they are saying play was over? I sure would like a replay with sound, and if there was no whistle, an explanation why it wasn’t a fumble, because the runner certainly wasn’t down. Anyone know if the play could be challenged? Funny the network never even replayed it with sound.

Love hearing Steelers fans cry about refs when they got handed 14 points and the win against Cincinnati thanks to the refs.

    Sad.

Didn’t watch the game, but if the refs did interfere, it’s karma for taking Cincinnati’s playoff bye.

    Enjoy the off season, Steelers.

  27. The League's Crusade Against The Steelers Continues says: Dec 29, 2013 7:53 PM

The League does everything in their power to undermine the Steelers. The fake punt no-fumble call was a deliberate attack against the Steelers! We demand repercussions!

  29. jmblosser82 says: Dec 29, 2013 8:00 PM

Hey raven trolls, how is third place tasting for the destined to repeat ravens?

Needing 2 losses for the ravens and dolphins, 1 by the chargers, 2 wins for the jets and 2 for the steelers was a tall order. I had my money on the jets screwing it up not the chargers. If only Pittsburgh didn’t squandered all if the winnable games they lost.

We’ll look to replace some if the aging defense, get a receiver that’s taller then 6′, and the eventual replacements for Miller and Roethlisberger in the next 2 years and rebuilding will be done.

There was no whistle when the Charger had the ball, no whistles when Gray was running the ball back for a TD and all the refs were behaving like it was a live ball. After the play Leavy didn’t even say he was down by contact or the play was blown dead his explanation was simply “Forward progress was past the yard to gain, first down”. One of the biggest gaffes I’ve ever seen watching football for 30 years and one that cost a team a spot in the playoffs.

  33. repmochief50 says: Dec 29, 2013 8:09 PM

Let me get this straight….Steelers needed 3 teams to lose today to back into the playoffs & the officials in those games were making calls to keep them out???? That’s classic!

  34. tmdill18 says: Dec 29, 2013 8:10 PM

Steelers go 8-8 and then whine that the league and the officials conspire to keep them out of the playoffs. That’s priceless!!

Not sure why there is absolutely zero talk about that play — the game was over and Kansas City had won and the only way you don’t arrive at that conclusion is if you believe that, while the pile was moving, the ref blew the play dead at the moment they crossed the first down line but before the ball came out. The runner was not down. The whistle had not blown. The Chiefs player was not touched down. He cleanly pulled the ball away and ran it into the endzone.

It was a touchdown. The Chiefs won.

Except they didn’t and no one seems to care.

    Hmm…

What a bunch of bull. The refs did not hand the Steelers 14 points in the win against the Bengals. That is delusional. The Bengals trailed 24-0 and 30-7 and that is what cost them the game. Me thinks you are relieved that The Steelers are not traveling to Cincy next week,

  41. cjnunes426 says: Dec 29, 2013 8:25 PM

Chargers struggled today. They also beat the KC starters in KC. Denver at Denver, and the colts.

  43. enoughofthatalready says: Dec 29, 2013 8:28 PM

The refs messed up with the fumble. If they blew the whistle, then Weddle was short of the first down. It was after the Chargers pushed Weddle over the line of gain when the fumble occurred.

On another note, I hope the Chiefs lose by 40 next week. That is what you get for resting your starters. Sure it was competitive and Suckup blew the game on a missed FG and there is the messed up fumble, but resting your starters in a meaningful game for at least 2 other teams is cowardly.

Please name a Steeler that is whining that the league and the officials conspire to keep them out of the playoffs. Trolls don’t count. In fact, it was people like you that said that the Steelers would never be in playoff contention for years after the way they started……..this is just a way for you blowhards to say…..see, I told you so….pathetic….

  45. jbaxt says: Dec 29, 2013 8:32 PM

Love my chiefs, glad 3 teams in the west are in but that fake punt was maybe the worst call/lack of explanation ever. It was like the refs said chargers; hurry up and hike it… Reid can’t challenge, it’s OT, it booth reviewed. I’ve seen a couple plays reviewed this year with helmets coming off to determine spots. But now this play, with so much at stake, for Pitt/SD, it was like it was swept under the rug.

It does nothing for my Chiefs, but sure seems Pitt got screwed.

    Explain, please!!!

LOL @ the Chargers almost being beaten by (and would have been beaten by if it weren’t for the refs) the Chiefs 2nd and 3rd string players…Some of which had never even played in an NFL game before…If the Chiefs would have won that game SD would never be able to shake that!
