Earlier this season, it seemed inevitable that the Buccaneers would fire coach Greg Schiano on December 30, if not sooner. Not, Schiano remains at worst in the undecided category.
If the needle eventually points to “safe” for the second-year NFL head coach, the question becomes whether changes are coming to the coaching staff. Some league insiders believe that, if Schiano stays, offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan won’t.
And that wouldn’t be a huge surprise. The unit has struggled this year, and Schiano will need to shake things up if he hopes to avoid triggering a full-staff shake-up after the 2014 season.
Sulivan’s reported interest in the Army job suggests that Sullivan realizes the end is coming -- regardless of whether Schiano and everyone else goes or Schiano stays and tries to pump up a so-so offense.
