The Seahawks didn’t make things all that interesting as they tried to wrap up the first seed in the NFC on Sunday.
Yes, their offense still failed to consistently generate yards over the course of the game but things were never particularly close because their defense gave the Rams very little room to operate during the game. The Rams picked up 158 yards and 11 first downs during a 27-9 loss that guaranteed the Seahawks’ next road game will either be the Super Bowl or during the 2014 season.
The lead was already 13-0 at the half and the Seahawks put the game out of reach with a pair of touchdowns in the second half. The first came with a lot of help from Rams personal fouls that helped them navigate their way into the end zone. Defensive tackle Kendall Langford was ejected for making contact with an official during the St. Louis meltdown, which was part of an overall lack of control exhibited by referee Jeff Triplette and crew on Sunday.
The second touchdown came on the most impressive offensive play of the game for Seattle. Russell Wilson hit Golden Tate for a 47-yard touchdown that made the score 27-3 and touched off some early celebrations in Seattle. They’ll have a fair amount of time to enjoy this win before they have to return to the field in two weeks. When they do, they’ll need to be sharper on offense -- 269 yards, four sacks allowed -- to live up to their status as the favorites in the NFC.
