Browns ask to interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn AP

The Browns might end up going for an older coach yet, but at the moment, they’re leaning toward another young coordinator.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Browns have asked permission to interview Seattle defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for their vacant position.

Quinn has previously worked as the defensive line coach for the Seahawks, Jets, Dolphins and 49ers, along with the University of Florida.

The 43-year-old assistant joins 35-year-old Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase as candidates they’re known to have asked to talk to.

If the Browns wanted a Seahawks assistant, they probably should have spent more time talking to Gus Bradley last year. He ended up with the Jaguars, and beat the Browns down the stretch in one of the games that might have doomed Rob Chudzinski.

Adam Gase? Everyone knows that Peyton was the real offensive coordinator for the Broncos.

He coaches the best defense in the league, not a bad guy to have with an organization.

    Stop taking our coaches!

    Price of winning, I guess.

  4. jdubb84 says: Dec 30, 2013 2:42 PM

Ok props to Dan, but he has only been back in the league a year and yes when working for a defense that already has insane talent its gonna make u shine..gutsy move Cleveland

  5. sportsguy3434 says: Dec 30, 2013 2:43 PM

    Aiming high already.

Pete says no because they are in the playoffs haha.

  6. domryder says: Dec 30, 2013 2:45 PM

Don’t do it Dan! For the love of the Seahawks just do not throw it away for the most cursed team in the NFL

  7. sweetnlow44 says: Dec 30, 2013 2:46 PM

Why don’t the just take our offensive coordinator, Derrell Bevell? I like Quinn better than Bradley, so I’d like if the Hawks could hold onto him, but if he gets a head coaching opportunity, I wouldn’t blame him for not taking it.

Dont wory Dom, they would probably fire him after the first pre-season game anyways!!!!

    What a terrible franchise….terrible
I wouldn’t be surprised if they fired him to bring in Schiano…..ouch!!!!!

  9. WACANHFL says: Dec 30, 2013 2:48 PM

    NO!

    Go Hawks!

(Ok, after the playoffs you can talk.)

Make them put “We believe in continuity” in writing, Dan.

    the cleveland clowns

  12. orivar says: Dec 30, 2013 2:51 PM

    Seahawks cannot keep a DC.

  13. hillbillyjim says: Dec 30, 2013 2:51 PM

Who would leave a good gig for a HC job that averages 1 year?

  14. threefeetaway says: Dec 30, 2013 2:54 PM

Take Bevell!! We need a more creative offensive coordinator and Bevell is not that guy…

  15. tyler4richardson says: Dec 30, 2013 2:54 PM

Well, Mr. Gase…… You owe Peyton, Moreno and those receivers a big thank you if you get a gig. I feel comfortable saying he’s overrated at this given moment.

    Hands Off!

  17. djstangcougar says: Dec 30, 2013 3:00 PM

Nope, but you CAN speak to Darrell Bevell.

    Yes, Yes, Yes!

    Also Zimmer!

  20. baller2 says: Dec 30, 2013 3:16 PM

Cleveland doesn’t have the three stooges they have 666

  21. ravenswhat says: Dec 30, 2013 3:31 PM

It must be incredibly tough to coordinate that awful D. Incredibly.

  22. grruffgrruff says: Dec 30, 2013 3:34 PM

    DC contenders:

    Quinn/Seattle
    McDermott/Carolina
    Sutton/KC
    Zimmer/Cincy

    OC contenders:

    Clements/ Green Bay
    Gruden/Concy
    Pederson/KC

It worked out well for the Jags…. I mean they did beat Cleveland. Anyone ever think that maybe the talent and Pete’s presence makes them shine? I hate Carroll with a passion but he does know defense.

  24. jayniner says: Dec 30, 2013 3:35 PM

Why not go after one of the 6 head coaches that were fired this morning?

  25. coolherc says: Dec 30, 2013 3:37 PM

    You can have him……. for a 1st-rounder.

  26. remyje says: Dec 30, 2013 3:54 PM

Doomed because Joe Haden got burnt by Cecil Shorts….. Best corner in the league

  27. thebirdofprey2 says: Dec 30, 2013 4:15 PM

I was glad to see Gus Bradley go even though he had the top rated defense because he didn’t have the killer instinct to close games (prevent defense lost 2 or 3 games last year).

Dan Quinn is the brings the perfect amount of aggressiveness and smart calls. I hope he remains Seattle’s defensive coordinator because the Browns have an excellent one in Ray Horton. I think if Quinn has another year like this year there will be no doubt he will be a head coach somewhere.

  28. southpaw79 says: Dec 30, 2013 4:27 PM

Is Seattle going to get blown up after this season? Both Quinn and Bevell will get looks. Then new head coaches usually pilfer a few coaches from their old staff to follow them to a new team. Carroll is going to be lucky if there is even a pack of gum left behind.

Pete Carroll has deep coaching connections from his NFL and college days. He had Alex Gibbs before Tom Cable took over. Brought on Gus Bradley when nobody even knew who he was. Ken Norton Jr has coached up the linebackers as well as anybody. Secondary coach Kris Richard has 3 Pro Bowl player and Maxwell has 4 picks in 4 games. Seahawk coaches will be just fine.

  30. adderal says: Dec 30, 2013 6:08 PM

Can the 49ers pay Clev to take Roman? Seriously though I get theres only 32 of those jobs but Cle and Oakland seem to be where coaches go to die.

  31. tobis81 says: Dec 30, 2013 8:03 PM

I’m sick of all these pathetic teams taking out coaches. Same thing happened to Bradley last year. These coaches are under contract which means they shouldn’t be able to go anywhere until their contract is up. That’s what a contract is for after all. That said, I guess the Browns are too stupid to realize Quinn took over this defense which was already built. He was handed the keys. He’s not some genius who created it. Why would anyone fake that job anyways? You will be fired in a year, LOl.

  32. mutantman87 says: Dec 31, 2013 12:27 PM

I find it ironic that Dan Quinn looks like Gus Bradley, another great DC that happens to be bald with a goatee. He’s getting even better results with the Seahawks’ defense this year, so maybe he will be good. But after only two years of coordinator experience (one pro), he may yet be a little green.

  33. bert1913 says: Dec 31, 2013 2:22 PM

Why don’t we hear about 49ers assistant coaches being considered for head coaching jobs? Just saying
