Vontae Davis day-to-day with groin injury

The Colts are one of the 12 teams still playing football this season and their chances of being one of the eight teams still alive next week would be better with cornerback Vontae Davis in the lineup against the Chiefs.

There was some encouraging news on that front on Monday. Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star reports that Colts coach Chuck Pagano said that Davis had an MRI on his groin, which was injured during Sunday’s victory over the Jaguars, and that the tests came back negative for any serious injury. Pagano termed Davis day-to-day for this week, so we’ll get our next update on his condition when the Colts practice on Wednesday.

Davis has been the Colts’ top cover corner this year and finished the campaign with one interception and 12 passes defensed. He’s battled groin issues throughout the season, but started all 16 games during the regular season.

Davis is set for free agency in the offseason and could make himself a few extra bucks with a strong playoff performance, assuming, of course, he’s able to play.
