If Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson had a vote for defensive rookie of the year, he’d vote for himself.

I am the defensive rookie of the year,” Richardson said, via Newsday. “That’s just how I feel. If anybody has an opinion about it, they can always state their opinion. It’s just me.”

Richardson had a very good first year, both against the run and as a pass rusher (and he even scored a couple of rushing touchdowns) and he believes it should be an easy choice.

“Most definitely,” Richardson said. “It’s not even a question.”

Actually, it is a question. Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso, Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotullelei, 49ers safety Eric Reid and Cardinals defensive back Tyrann Mathieu all deserve consideration. But Richardson has a strong case. And obviously a lot of confidence.
