Earl Wolff misses practice for Eagles

It doesn’t look good for safety Earl Wolff’s chances of taking the field for the Eagles on Saturday night.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Wolff didn’t practice on Wednesday because of the right knee injury that’s forced him to miss five of the last six games. Wolff was forced out of the one game he did play — the Week 16 victory over the Bears — and said Tuesday that he was optimistic about playing, but coach Chip Kelly said Wednesday that Wolff won’t play if he doesn’t practice.

“Earl has to practice if he’s going to play, so if that’s your question, yeah, he’s got to get out there at some point in time,” Kelly said in his press conference.

Thursday’s practice is a walkthrough and will be Wolff’s last chance to fulfill Kelly’s requirement before Sunday. Patrick Chung has started alongside Nate Allen in Wolff’s absence, although McLane reports that it looks like Kurt Coleman will split time with Chung against the Saints.

    Wolff looks very explosive and promising when he plays.. but seems he’s always hurt.. wish we would have made a play for Byrd.. Every one at the Linc probably will too come Saturday when Brees throws for 500 yards on us. I’m an Eagles fan thru and thru and I hope we find a way to stop Brees but let’s be real. Hopefully in a couple years.

    Uh Josh, the Eagles beat the Bears on week 16. And I’d much rather see Wolff running around the field with a pair of crutches than watch Patrick Chung out there trying to imitate a professional football player. It’s just painful watching that man play…!!!

    If earl wolfe is the difference between winning and losing this weekend, the the eagles have more problems than I thought going into this game. Go saints. Ps. No more read option. Horrible football.

    Losing Wolffe hurts a lot. Wolffe and Allen are both average safeties. After them, the depth is a lot worse.

    @youknowImright… When facing in my opinion the leagues top passer.. secondary is kind of important.

    @distracted9

    Agreed. But my point is that if earl wolfe is the best you got. Enjoy the offseason. This def is due for a stinker. Just not that good. Product of schedule and luck. Go stanford cardinals. One of the few teams that still plays traditional real football. The read option must go.

    There’s much more that goes into evaluating a game than just the rosters…like the weather. Clearly none of you have looked into that as there is a nor’easter forecast for Friday and Saturday. There will be snowfall, sleet, freezing rain, and high winds. Its going to be a running game and the team from the dome who is terrible on the road and terrible in the cold won’t stand a chance.

    I did look at the weather and it calls for cloudy and in the teens.. snow thurs, fri, and sun.

    Thanks sheena parveen and cecily tynan for the update. It will be 24 with 5 mph wind and no precip. Brees played st purdue. He will be fine to light up that joke d which has not played a real qb since romo way back.

    Saints fan here. No need to worry about Brees Saturday. He simply cannot play great in the cold. I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
    11-5 a year after Goodell wrecked the franchise ain’t bad.

    I personally think that the Saints are sick of hearing about sucking on the road,and find a way to win. Time for them to get that monkey off their backs. Geaux Saints!
