Hakeem Nicks is set to become a free agent this offseason after five seasons played for the New York Giants.

Nicks hasn’t caught a touchdown since last December. In general, it’s been a pair of down seasons for Nicks after posting consecutive seasons with at least 70 catches, 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in 2010-11.

That doesn’t stop Nicks from believing he can still play at that level as he enters free agency.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Nicks is confident he can be one of the league’s best receivers.

“I still consider myself one of the top receivers in this league and I’m going to go out and prove it,” Nicks said.

It was a disappointing season for Nicks and the Giants as a whole this season. While Nicks did average 16 yards a catch this year in catching 56 passes for 896 yards, he failed to get into the end zone. An 0-6 start to the season for New York practically dug too big of a hole for the Giants to overcome.

Nicks became a possible trade option before the deadline but ultimately remained with the Giants for the rest of the season.

With teams constantly searching for a top flight wide receiver, Nicks is likely to draw significant interest on the free agent market this spring.
