Ryan Mathews doesn’t practice on Wednesday

The Chargers’ injury report is short entering Sunday’s wild-card game at Cincinnati, but it does include their top rusher.

Tailback Ryan Mathews (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. This is the second straight week he’s sat out the Chargers’ first workout with an ankle ailment.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Mathews was wearing a medical boot on the ankle, just as he did last week.

Mathews missed the first two days of practice leading up to the season finale against Kansas City. He practiced on a limited basis last Friday, then rushed for 144 yards two days later in the Chargers’ victory vs. the Chiefs.

Three other Chargers were on the club’s first postseason injury report. Wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice, while defensive end Kendall Reyes (ankle) and defensive lineman Sean Lissemore (shoulder) were limited.

Probably a precaution at this point, rest up for the playoff game.

Bengals 1st string in nothing like the Chiefs scrubs…

Mathews has quietly put up almost 5,000 yards of offense…not bad for a guy whose early injuries led many to label him a “bust.”

Well, we know one thing for sure…

No Steelers or Raiders running back is starting this week!!

17-10 the score vs the Bengals 1st string. please remember the Chargers beat both the Broncos and Chiefs at home. Bolts by 3.

If Mathews was eligible for comeback player off the year, I’d argue he deserved it.

You are correct. Those scrubs put up more points against that awful defense.

They struggled with the scrubbs but beat their A squad with no problems weeks earlier.

Wasn’t the “scrubs” that missed that field goal.

There is no excuse for not winning a playoff game this year for the Bengals. 20 years is long enough.

Is this guy ever healthy? What is wrong with him?

He will play and get close to 30 touches while running out the clock to advance to Denver. Andy Dalton doesn’t get that monkey off his back just yet, you can’t throw 4 interceptions and beat the chargers. May work against the Ravens but not against a playoff team
