Should the Panthers offense struggle to move the ball in the playoffs, at least they have a strong-legged punter to help give their defense more field to defend.
Brad Nortman had a net of 41.6 yards this season, an average boosted during the five games the Panthers played in December. Nortman netted almost 44 yards on his 24 punts during the month as the Panthers wrapped up the NFC South.
For that work, Nortman has been named the NFC special teams player of the month by the NFL. Nortman averaged over 48 yards per kick during the month, dropping eight kicks inside the 20 and averaging more than 50 yards a kick during the crucial Week 16 victory over the Saints as it stormed in Charlotte.
Nortman’s numbers were up across the board from the 2012 season, his first with the Panthers, and he ranked fifth in the league in net punting average.
