Report: Erin Henderson arrested for suspicion of DUI

As the Vikings look for a new man to lead their team on the field, they continue to have issues with players getting in trouble off the field.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, linebacker Erin Henderson was arrested on January 1 for suspicion of DUI.

“We are aware of the matter involving Erin Henderson,” the team said in a statement released to the media.  “We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”

The further comment very well could come in the form of a release of Henderson when the 2014 waiver period commences, after the Super Bowl.

Henderson had a similar incident in November 2013.  It was one of three different legal entanglements involving Vikings players that month.

    There it goes! :)

  3. FlashPatterson says: Jan 2, 2014 12:30 PM

Cut him, he’s not good enough to get away with crap like this.

  4. packerfansarefat says: Jan 2, 2014 12:33 PM

He’s getting dangerously close to qualifying as a Packer fan.

  5. larjones64 says: Jan 2, 2014 12:34 PM

I hope for Erin’s sake that he gets into treatment soon. Substance abuse is not to be taken lightly. It could save his life.

  6. expertop says: Jan 2, 2014 12:35 PM

Undrafted college free agent, improved enough to become a serviceable NFL linebacker. Two DWI’s in 2 months? Adios. Way to throw it all away.

Dude has a problem, but he’ll have to address that problem while being unemployed.

  8. vikingborn70 says: Jan 2, 2014 12:35 PM

Really dude…January 1st ? That’s just bad luck…..What are the odds of cops being out looking for drunk drivers on THAT night ?

  9. whenwilliteverend says: Jan 2, 2014 12:36 PM

He sued the police after taking his license in November in hopes of getting his license back. Maybe he’ll sue the Vikings if they cut him so he can get a job again.

  11. tokyosandblaster says: Jan 2, 2014 12:37 PM

What’s this? A non-perfect Viking? This could be trouble as this team prepares for another glorious Super Bowl run.

Millions of non-millionaires managed to have DD’s or call cabs for New Years. Drunk driving should automatically give you 30 days in the slammer.

  13. fmlizard says: Jan 2, 2014 12:39 PM

Not that it’s an excuse, but I wonder if Minnesota and the harsh winter so far contributes to drinking and driving. When its terrible weather out I know it feels easier to drive than to trudge through the snow or stand around outside finding a cab.

  14. aljack88 says: Jan 2, 2014 12:42 PM

Aldon Smith school of rehab up next. 6 weeks, cured with no further ado from the NFL. Works for the 9ers, should work for everyone else.

  15. threedeep1998 says: Jan 2, 2014 12:47 PM

Paul Allen on KFAN made it sound like he is struggling in his personal life. Those two are close and to be arrested late morning/early afternoon should ring some alarm bells.

  16. Wineshard says: Jan 2, 2014 12:49 PM

The unstructured offseason is a killer for the mentally immature. NFLPA should allow the Teams to “manage” their assets between January and Training Camp – for the players’ own good.

  17. expertop says: Jan 2, 2014 12:58 PM

As an NFL player, you can pretty much do what you want. Drink, party all you want. Just 1) avoid positive drug tests and 2) stay out of jail. And, hell, you can even mess up on one or both of those. But you can’t KEEP DOING IT. Free car service, millions in income and you can’t simply stay off the streets – on New Year’s Eve??

  18. chillyball says: Jan 2, 2014 1:04 PM

Good riddance. I don’t like him playing or him on KFAN with Paul Allen.

  19. filthymcnasty1 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:09 PM

At 5-10-1, what did he have to celebrate?

  20. yordo says: Jan 2, 2014 1:10 PM

I’m the one who was suspicious. It’s my civic duty to report questionable drivers as I drift uncontrollably down the road.

  21. duece5 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:16 PM

Unlike the tasteless packers, we will cut ties from this fraud of a player.

Erin…..good luck in whatever you do, please sign with the packers!

  22. tremoluxman says: Jan 2, 2014 1:17 PM

Hope he had jelly in his pockets ‘cuz now he’s toast.

  23. vikinganswer says: Jan 2, 2014 1:18 PM

Soon to be FORMER VIKING LB.

  24. mclovin07 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:20 PM

While we are at it, let’s get rid of Paul Allen. He’s horrible anymore. Now he want’s Priefer as HC?? Is he drinking with Erin, or what??

  25. banlarson says: Jan 2, 2014 1:23 PM

Too bad for Erin, who seems to always have lived under the shadow of EJ and wasn’t good enough to get the long term contract or lock down a position at LB.

Spielman has trouble drafting LBs, CBs and QBs. Guess we’ll see how he does this year. Let’s hope the two Penn St LBs drafted this year show something more than they did in their rookie year. Otherwise maybe CJ Mosley is the right pick at #8.

  26. purpleguy says: Jan 2, 2014 1:24 PM

Looks like the guy is as bad with alcohol as he is playing MLB. I hope he gets the help he needs for both problems.

  27. suns11111 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:24 PM

Gizmo (KFAN named him cause he wears sun glasses inside lol) once again can not avoid the bright lights………bye bye.

  28. dublindemonszfl says: Jan 2, 2014 1:26 PM

Good, less fanfare when he is cut. Just go away.

  29. dragonfly99 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:28 PM

Rick Spielman blames Leslie Frazier for this.

  30. whatjusthapped says: Jan 2, 2014 1:29 PM

Henderson must have a pea sized brain. Doesn’t he realize the Vikings have a car service for exactly nights like this? One phone call, no questions asked, no charge, he gets a ride from Point A to Point B and avoids any chance of DUI.

So if that’s the bad news, the good news is he is likely to get cut and then has a chance to play Pro football. Its fitting that the Vikings will be playing in a college stadium starting next year.

  31. pack13queens0 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:32 PM

Quick, there’s still time to repeal the Stadium deal & move to Los Angeles. Not only are the Vikings an embarassment to the NFL, the whole State of Minnesota is an embarassment to the USA.

  32. wearewhowethoughtwewere says: Jan 2, 2014 1:43 PM

Him and the Kluwe blog up on Deadspin.

The Vikes are having a rough off-season.

  33. surfinbird1 says: Jan 2, 2014 1:56 PM

Hey Erin, it gets tough to buy booze with no job. Wake up kid.

  34. 6kingswest says: Jan 2, 2014 2:14 PM

This is a no-brainer, cut him! Congratulations Audie!

  35. filthymcnasty1 says: Jan 2, 2014 2:23 PM

Do they need a new coach, or a new AA sponsor?

  36. annes22 says: Jan 2, 2014 2:36 PM

If he had one in November as well, he needs to go into treatment I would think.
Rick Speilman should fire himself as well.

  37. jeter325 says: Jan 2, 2014 2:41 PM

2m cap saving if he is cut. Adios

  38. fanofevilempire says: Jan 2, 2014 2:49 PM

maybe he will be better if they cut him, Vikings suck.

  39. jboody79 says: Jan 2, 2014 2:59 PM

So Long Erin “Gizmo” Henderson. I hope you enjoyed your time here. I’m sure the voice of the Vikings, PA, will stick up for you on the Twin Cities air waves. He always has. Gizmo wasn’t great anyways so I’ll be glad to see him replaced.

  40. seatownballers says: Jan 2, 2014 3:03 PM

    Lol
Vikings are primed for another sb run!

  41. bobnelsonjr says: Jan 2, 2014 3:13 PM

This viking was previously suspended by the for performance enhancing drugs.

One would think that this individual did not have a driving license at the time of this arrest due to his previous DUI.

Given the repeat nature of his substance abuse history long suspension is warranted.

The vikings had only 3 arrests this season among their 53 players (5.66%). It is either progress or a down season depending on how you look at it.

  42. vikesdynasty says: Jan 2, 2014 3:23 PM

    Good riddance.

  43. gbmickey says: Jan 2, 2014 3:42 PM

What a dysfunctional franchise from top to bottom.

  44. darkneptune73 says: Jan 2, 2014 3:45 PM

Too bad his brother retired or else we’d place Erin with him quick.

  45. aldante66 says: Jan 2, 2014 4:01 PM

The Packers could should use a linebacker. Oh, I’m sorry, they sure could use a lot of linebackers.
Mulumba, Lattimore, Neal, Jones (always injured) ever hear of any of these guys. No of course you haven’t. The do have Hawk who never gets hurt because he never makes solo tackles.

  46. Norseman says: Jan 2, 2014 4:20 PM

    See ya.

Make way for the Michael Mauti era at MLB.

  47. crowdedtrophycase says: Jan 2, 2014 5:14 PM

Is it me, or does this type of thing happen to the Vikes more than average?

  48. nflcrimerankingscom says: Jan 2, 2014 5:26 PM

Vikings now in 4th place in the Crime Rankings:

  49. filthymcnasty1 says: Jan 2, 2014 5:51 PM

For those being judgmental, you try and live in MN without being drunk.

  50. tipstopten says: Jan 2, 2014 6:10 PM

I sure am glad I do not drive a car in Minn.

  51. jollyjoker2 says: Jan 2, 2014 7:47 PM

Don’t these guys know that in MN there are more cops than people on any night past 10 pm….This is a liberal cop state. I pass three cops per day on a rural road getting to work looking for people doing 35 in a 30.

  52. nashbrad says: Jan 2, 2014 9:38 PM

Adios Amigo…. Organization better not employ him…..Na na na na, Na na na na, hey hey hey goodbye!

  53. nashbrad says: Jan 2, 2014 9:44 PM

I remember listening to PA last spring, after the draft, and the 3 new recruits showed up at some location and Erin gave a big speech to the three about bringing their big boy pants and get ready to practice hard, and Erin was excited about playing with the new recruits. Now you can sit at home, Erin, and watch the big boys play while you sit and suck on your bottle. YOU IDIOT!!!

  54. northstarnic says: Jan 2, 2014 11:19 PM

Cut him. He’s easily replaceable, anyhow.

  55. geeoh2k13 says: Jan 3, 2014 11:01 AM

Stupid is as stupid does… EJ really needs to beat some sense into this dumb@ss… I’ve met EJ and have had nothing but respect for him… It’s time to grow up Erin…

  56. dltrey305 says: Jan 28, 2014 8:04 AM
