The Chargers got used to being without Ryan Mathews in the past.

But this year, when he’s become both durable and trustworthy, they’re having to get used to it again.

According to the team’s official injury report, Mathews did not participate Thursday, in advance of Sunday’s playoff game at Cincinnati. Mathews also missed Wednesday’s practice, but that’s not the best indicator.

He took two days off last week and responded with 144 yards against the Chiefs, finishing a complete 16-game season for the first time in his career.

If he’s not practicing tomorrow, there could be more of a concern, but this looks like they’re saving him for when they need him the most.

Wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe) was the only other player who didn’t participate. Defensive end Kendall Reyes (ankle) was a full participant after being limited on Wednesday, while defensive tackle Sean Lissemore (shoulder) remained limited.
