With the Colts right on their tails, the Chiefs gave themselves a little more fourth-quarter breathing room.

Ryan Succop’s 43-yard field goal gave the Chiefs a 44-38 lead with less than six minutes left in regulation. The field goal ended an 11-play drive that took 5:02 off the clock.

Indianapolis, which trailed by 28 points two minutes into the third quarter, had cut Kansas City’s lead to 41-38 on a fortunate bounce early in the fourth quarter. Tailback Donald Brown fumbled near the Chiefs’ goal line, but the ball bounced off center Samson Satele’s head and into the hands of quarterback Andrew Luck, who took it in for a five-yard touchdown.
