Colts hold 45-44 lead late in fourth quarter

Amazingly, the Colts have taken the lead in Saturday’s wild-card matchup vs. Kansas City.

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck connected with wideout T.Y. Hilton on a 64-yard TD pass to give Indianapolis a 45-44 edge with a little more than four minutes left.

The Colts, who trailed 38-10 early in the third quarter, have outscored Kansas City 35-6 since.

The Chiefs face a 4th-and-11 at the Indianapolis 43 at the two-minute warning.

Chiefs are fraud!! Told you so all year!!

  2. mykpfsu says: Jan 4, 2014 8:02 PM

And the Colts will when while interfering with the last pass. Bowe was being pushed out before the pass got there.

    Classic Andy Reid clock management.

  8. macker1283 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:03 PM

Andy Reid should be fired. That is so unbelievably ridiciulous. Calls a timeout after the two minute warning LOL. Has there every been a worse coach in terms of clock management in NFL history?

Someone has voodoo dolls of all the KC players. That game was crazy.

  19. gmsalpha says: Jan 4, 2014 8:04 PM

And to think that without a corporate bailout, this game would not even have been televised in the Indianapolis market.

  20. kev86 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:05 PM

I called the Colts toast earlier. Shocker. Brutal day for Chiefs fans. Wow.

  21. statsdolie says: Jan 4, 2014 8:05 PM

Can’t believe what I just watched.

Sorry Chiefs fans, injuries broadsided you here.

I might be a Chargers fan, but was rooting for you guys to win it all if we didn’t, since your franchise and fans are very classy.

    Best luck next season.

  33. oldschoolnflman says: Jan 4, 2014 8:07 PM

Injuries prevented the chiefs from holding onto a lead they earned. If matt hasselbeck doesn’t start next week, Colts are in serious trouble. Denver: when you are up 38-10 on these tank to win scrubs, please put up 60 before taking the first team out. Thx have a great day Colts fans.

  34. icanspeel says: Jan 4, 2014 8:07 PM

Going to take the Chiefs all offseason to recover from that game.. 28 point lead with 1 half to go? Ouch

  35. tigerlilac says: Jan 4, 2014 8:07 PM

One of the greatest comebacks in playoff history. Luck picked himself and his team off the mat and won this game with a courageous effort. One question, why is it that wide receivers run sideline patterns so close to the sideline instead of giving themselves and their quarterback room to make a play? It’s not just Bowe on the Chiefs’ last play, it is widespread in the NFL.

  36. snowboardinganteater says: Jan 4, 2014 8:07 PM

Same old poor time management displayed by Andy Reid year after year after year after year…just like in Philly!

  37. tmdill18 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:07 PM

Seriously – there are 5 friggin pro bowlers on that KC defense. That is a friggin travesty. Will this finally end the perception that KC has this abundance of superior talent? And don’t cry about injuries. They got toasted the entire second half before the defense had injuries. Fleener owned that so called pro bowl safety.

  38. therealbleedcoltsblue says: Jan 4, 2014 8:08 PM

Ahhhh. Just like old times when the Colts n Cheifs meet in the playoffs.

  39. golfore says: Jan 4, 2014 8:08 PM

That was an amazing choke job by the Chefs. It could be forty years before they get that next playoff win. At least they had the record for the loudest stadium for a week! HaHa…..

  40. crisper57 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:08 PM

Chiefs faded in this game just like they did in the season. Can’t close.

  41. therolandobottom says: Jan 4, 2014 8:08 PM

One more, two to go. The Oakland a Raiders will still be the last AFC West team to reach the SB. Look at all these frauds. Enjoy being regular season champs Chefs. Like always.

  42. wisdomnfl says: Jan 4, 2014 8:08 PM

KC resting players ha ha ha good for them limping into the playoffs.

  43. rocoop says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

KC fans, when your finished with the excuses, get back to shoveling snow!!! I love it!!

  44. unbridledsexy says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

Yep, the chiefs are frauds. They get screwed out of a possible win with just their backups last week, then go in the road, lose their biggest playmaker immediately, followed by 5 more key players, and they lose by 1 in an incredible shoot out. Yep. Bunch of lousy frauds.

  45. hobiecat1 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

  46. bostonian13 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

RGWho?!? Griffin would’ve folded after his second pick and just down 17. Luck is amazing, TY Hilton was born along with Luck today. Awesome game.

Dum-Bowe, cost the chiefs he should’ve came down with both feet. Ultimately, no Charles and horrible clock management cost the chiefs.

  47. jackybadass says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

    Andy! Come on man!

  48. moochach says: Jan 4, 2014 8:09 PM

Andy always seems like he doesn’t understand when the game is going to end. He really needs a “Clock Assistant” to stand next to him and explain what to do.

  49. bobgriffinthe3rd says: Jan 4, 2014 8:10 PM

some ppl know me as Robert griffin III some people know me as rg3 and others know me as r g me. but not no more I shall now be known as bob Griffin the 3rd and I would of won that game. but since I got Michael fired in DC I’m the new head coach of the Washington racial slurs

I am Bob Griffin the 3rd

  50. taintedsaints2009 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:10 PM

it’s hard to play defense in the secondary when you can no longer attack, but are forced to react, to receivers.

i think the colts will get trounced by whoever they play.

but impressive comeback by andrew luck. he’s good.

  51. 1pwrightt says: Jan 4, 2014 8:10 PM

So some still think RG3 is a better QB? Think again.

  52. the8man says: Jan 4, 2014 8:11 PM

Chiefs fan, you have to question two things: your teams conditioning and your players commitment to win despite getting banged up. I’ve never seen so many guys go down in an indoor game. The poor bastards left in the lineup did the best they could. The losers that folded displayed no heart. I’d hate to be one of the players that quit when the rest of the roster comes into that locker room sweaty and spent.

Colts fan, great job in picking up Big Steve from Amish Mafia to QB your team. What a performance!

  54. vuudu says: Jan 4, 2014 8:12 PM

    johninthewest says:

Chiefs are fraud!! Told you so all year!!

A team puts up 44 points and loses half their defense in game. yeah thats pretty fraudulent.

  56. blu4l1fe says: Jan 4, 2014 8:13 PM

Good game for both teams with the Colts coming out on top of shootout. Not a fan of either team but did watch and have to say, very impressed on how Luck played. Specifically, the fumble recovery inside the five to lunge for a TD. For a second year QB, that was veteran-like of him.

Good performance by the Chiefs in Andy’s inaugural season. Maybe next year. Good start to the playoffs, looking forward to, hopefully, another good game between NO and Philly.

  57. thelastbesthope says: Jan 4, 2014 8:13 PM

If the Chiefs had hung on, their injuries left them ruined.

  59. blackandyellow71 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:14 PM

I put the timeout on Smith, but not the loss. He did what he had to, defense gave up way to many big plays.

    Colin Kaepernick> Alex Smith

  61. 6thsense10 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:15 PM

Chiefs played a good game considering their best player was hurt and left the game in the 1st quarter plus they kept losing starters throughout the game….I counted 5 injuries.

Robert Mathis is a beast. His strip fumble prevented a potential 45-17 Chiefs lead and instead lead to a 38-24 Chiefs lead.

The Chiefs D should be ashamed of themselves. Given 31-10 lead they should have been able to hold out enough for a win

One of the best playoff games I’ve seen.

  62. steelernator says: Jan 4, 2014 8:19 PM

Good. Glad KC lost. Biggest collapse in history. Reid tried to tank the game last week by resting his starters, then their kicker did tank it, preventing the Steelers from taking their rightful spot in the playoffs. Fat Andy never could figure out how to handle time outs. One and done, well deserved.

I’m sure the Chiefs fans will take Reid warts and all over what they suffered through the past few years (including 2-14 last season). Geesh people relax. The Chiefs were not suppose to even be this good this soon.

  64. letsgopens8771 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:20 PM

Poor clock management not by Andy Reid, but by Alex Smith. All those timeouts are on him alone.

    My Evaluations:

Andrew Luck played great despite the turnovers.
I hope the Colts lose by 28 at least. KC has sucked and now they come up like this in the playoffs? Unheard of. Colts did not deserve it. Kudos to KC fans that stuck with them through all that.
KC defense was awful in 2nd half and did not adjust. Failure there.
KC is not a fraud and has a good future. Draft picks will definitely want to go there now that they are a legit contender.
TY Hilton is a monster. Plain in simple. He has great hands and speed. KC couldn’t cover him at all. Remarkable.
Great job by Colts for not quitting, and for pulling off an incredible comeback to win an impressive playoff game. I don’t like to root against Luck, but I have to now.

One thing left to do: Go Seahawks!

  65. sanchock says: Jan 4, 2014 8:21 PM

    It’s official: Luck > RG3.
(I mean if there was still any doubt)

  66. tedmurph says: Jan 4, 2014 8:21 PM

Andy Reid takes a 2-14 team to the playoffs, with an 11-5 record, in a division with 3 out of 4 teams making the playoffs, with multiple injuries, on the road, in the playoffs and you ‘football fans’ call for his firing, due to clock management? Do I really have to say anything? He’s a candidate for coach of the year, yahoos.

  67. tmdill18 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:23 PM

Colts had more guys on injured reserve and used more players during the season to fill the roster. So Chiefs fans can stop usi g injuries as an excuse. Especially that pathetic defense. Supposedly they have 5 pro bowlers on defense. And the injures to the defense occurred after Luck already shredded them. So it made no difference.

  68. tmdill18 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:25 PM

The dumb timeout had no impact. KC did not run outl of time. They ran out of downs.

  69. j0esixpack says: Jan 5, 2014 9:56 AM

Serves the Chiefs right, running up the score with that big a lead. Karma.

They should have been nice and eased up (at least that’s what Patriots-haters always say when they get a big lead and continue to play hard)
