Jamaal Charles shaken up early, ruled out

Chiefs tailback Jamaal Charles left Saturday’s wild-card game at Indianapolis after being shaken up early in the first quarter.

Charles, who leads the Chiefs in rushing and receiving yards, appeared to be injured when his head hit the turf after being tackled on a seven-yard run off right end.

Charles was on the Chiefs’ bench area for a few plays, then walked off the sideline, ostensibly to be further looked at inside by medical staff.

Rookie Knile Davis replaced Charles in the lineup.

UPDATE: Charles has been ruled out, the Chiefs said.

I don’t know what’s worse, watching an indoor play-off game or listening to Mike Mayock’s lisp?

Im glad the chiefs were able to overcome that potential pass interference no call. Wonder if the NFL concussion docs will hold out J Charles? Would be a huge loss. Thankfully DAVIS got some work last week.

What horrible karma. First playoff game, first drive, down we go.

Rub some dirt on it. Sheeze….

Can you imagine Larry Csonka being led to the locker room in a playoff game after taking a ding?

Go steelers? Seriously? I mean… They can’t really go at all right now.

  13. nosmak40 says: Jan 4, 2014 5:09 PM

Just out of curiosity, why does he deserve an injury?

  14. dasmol says: Jan 4, 2014 5:11 PM

Tough blow to KC. Another case of commentator jinx? One had just stated that Charles was responsible for more than a third of the Chief’s offense.

  15. sopadegato says: Jan 4, 2014 5:13 PM

Karma strikes back. Remember the hit taking out Brian Cushing, who wasn’t anywhere near the ball and facing the opposite direction?

“The league’s crusade against the steelers”… what a goon… did u see super bowl 40? A total crusade FOR the steelers.

Gets what he deserves hey? Just like your steelers without a playoff game…

  18. chargerdillon says: Jan 4, 2014 5:16 PM

He went from public enemy #1 in Indy to public enemy #1 in KC if they lose

if it’s a concussion which is what they tested him for, he’s out for the game end of story

What a crappy way for this game to go

  19. sdbolthead says: Jan 4, 2014 5:21 PM

Steelers fan needs to get over it. Maybe your team shouldn’t have started the season 0-4? Plus, how quickly they forget a missed FG by Vanderjagt in ’06 that should have forced OT.

KC hasn’t folded their tent up yet…that’s a good sign, Jamaal putting his helmet on would be a better sign. Just saying

Sopadegato did you even watch the play? Jamaal Charles was the only thing between Brian Cushing and Alex Smith

  22. EJ says: Jan 4, 2014 5:30 PM

Charles was a huge percent of the Offensive gameplan, but after depending on him so often all year Kansas City can’t expect it to last forever. I am also sure Andy Reid has a backup plan in place, he’s just too good of a coach to not have different avenues to follow.

Not the way they’re playing at the moment. Colts can’t even stop Alex Smith rushing.

It’s crazy that Charles was knocked out of the game on such a harmless looking play. He wasn’t even hit by the other guy, he was knocked out by the damn artificial turf. That’s ridiculous.

Either get rid of artificial turf or modify the rules that keep key players out of key games with concussions. There’s no reason for Charles not to be playing right now.

It sure looked like pass interference the last play the Chiefs ran; similarly to the play prior to the Chief’s touchdown in the first half;( they scored the next play so no harm no foul), but what IF!!!!!. There must be no difference if the receiver is 100 pounds and 2 feet taller than the defender, or they are the same size. The coach decides who covers who, and size should not favor either team. This Wild Card Game is tainted by questionable officiating. Though both teams played well, I feel Mr. Luck Is an exceptional QB, and played an amazing game it cheapens the sport when infractions are missed for what ever reason, with no recourse as in a review.
