Report: Vikings will interview Todd Bowles Monday

The last two Arizona Cardinals defenses will be well-represented in Minnesota this week.

We learned late last week that Ray Horton, who coordinated the 2012 edition of the defense before moving onto Cleveland in 2013, will interview for the Vikings about their head coaching vacancy on Tuesday. Now comes word, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, that Horton’s replacement Todd Bowles will meet with the team on Monday.

Bowles has also drawn interest from Cleveland for their opening at head coach and reportedly interviewed for the Browns job on Friday. He ran a strong Cardinals defense this season and has three games of head coaching experience as the interim replacement after Miami fired Tony Sparano in 2011.

Bowles and Horton are two of a coaching search list that’s been mostly populated by coordinators. Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn are reportedly on the list of candidates, as are some assistants working during Wild Card weekend who were not available for interviews last week.

Why? You don’t have a franchise QB and quite honestly, Spielman hasn’t shown the ability to know one when he sees one so there’s little reason to think you’ll have one in the future.

The Vikes look once again to former Packers. Bowles started on the Pack’s personnel staff the year they won the Superbowl with Favre.

Our franchise qb next year will be johnny football. And vikes will be competing for ncf north. We pretty much could have had it this year if we pulled out the games against bears cowboys and ravens.

When O when are we going to interview:
    Herm Edwards
    Brian Billick
    Eric Mangini
    John Franklin from Vandy
As far as looking at coordinators, I prefer our next HC have defensive background. I also hope he can get a OC that has developed QBs, and a DC that WILL NOT EVER use the Cover 2

Yes, every team in the division had their chances. The Vikings had theirs too. The Bears held the in-common opponent tie-breaker over Green Bay. If the Vikings hadn’t allowed the Packers to salvage a tie after being down by 16, the Bears would be hosting a game this weekend. All things considered, the Packers earned it. Nobody else wanted it bad enough.

I hope he decides to stay in AZ. They have a very good thing going on right now. The Vikes should focus on snagging Horton and hope Norv Turner comes along with him.

They need a strategist not a coordinator. The head coach has to see the big picture, install discipline and lead the team. Coordinators don’t do that nor are they apt to figure it out in their first years. Tressel, Billick, and Priefer need consideration.

I thought Chucky was a lock. All you lavender Larry toads last week were saying “book it.” And when you nit wits say “book it,” well, we just assume that since your the intellectual center of the football universe (that’s why you have so many Lombardi trophies) that it’s a given.

Don’t tell me you dim witted dummies got that one wrong just like the prediction the “Bears will destroy the Packers.” LMAO!

so…who out there is proven to find and develop a good quarterback?

“Nitwits” is one word there Einstein

Don’t bring someone who you would really consider to Minnesota on a day when it will be -24 with a -38 windchill and tell him that you’re playing outside for the next 2 years, and expect him to sign, especially not if he is currently in Arizona. Nothing to see here, move along.

It’s nice to something see legitimate comments on here ?.. So often it’s a buncha hate slanging that usually makes very little sense an often has nothing to do with the actual article … I’d love Gruden or cowher though I know that won’t happen

  16. tooba2026 says: Jan 4, 2014 8:45 PM

This is the only chance the Vikings ever have to get a “bowl”, this one just won’t earn em a ring.

How do this fool’s posts always make it on here, yet 90% of mine, if I include the word “Packers” never appear?

I should also probably mention that you used “your” when you should have used “you’re.” The first is possessive, while the second is a contraction of the words “you” and “are.” Ironically, this was in a sentence berating Vikings fans for assuming that they are the “intellectual center of the football universe.”

You do know what irony is right? Probably not, as I’m guessing that you’re (see how that word is used?) a product of the Wisconsin educational system.

Whoever takes the job is going to get a 2-year pass due to the vikings playing outdoors. By the time they get back inside a dome, AP will have hit the wall even harder than he already has. There’s no coach that can last 3 full seasons with this franchise.

The packers had Bowles and then got rid of him? Brilliant! Seriously though, the packers had a coach on their staff that can actually produce a quality defense and they got rid of him? Nuff said. Btw, elliotcovert rocks!

  24. pappavike says: Jan 4, 2014 10:05 PM

Sure, would like to get J. Gruden here in minny!! Billick would be successful here as well. Bring Brett Farve in as QB coach, start cassel next year and let our newly drafted QB learn for the first year!

  25. whatjusthapped says: Jan 4, 2014 10:06 PM

I can imagine that the Vikings will interview more than a few people before deciding.

    As long as Spielman is making the decision on draft day, two things will prevail;
    1. He will miss at QB in the 1st round, again.
    2. Doesn’t matter who the coach is, a bad QB would have sunk Vince Lombardi, Chuck Knoll or Bill Walsh. It has already discarded Frazier, not a legendary coach but better than the next one that Spielman will hire.

  26. filthymcnasty1 says: Jan 5, 2014 12:04 PM

The Vikings will have to settle for a 3rd tier candidate because they’re the only ones desperate enough to go to MN.

    Nobody like Mike McLardy, please…
