Shields exits early with lower leg injury

The Packers have dealt with plenty of injuries this year.  Early in their playoff game against the 49ers, they have another.

Starting cornerback Sam Shields suffered a foot/ankle injury on San Francisco’s second play from scrimmage.  Shields’ foot was pinned under a teammate while several Packers tried to tackle receiver Michael Crabtree.

Shields, according to Joe Buck of FOX, was in “a lot of pain coming off the field,” an exit that occurred during a commercial break.

The fourth-year pro missed two games during the regular season with a hamstring injury.  His absence requires players like Micah Hyde and Davon House to step up.

Based on a 31-yard pass to Crabtree behind Hyde on fourth and short, Hyde has yet to.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m. ET:  Shields has been carted to the locker room.  Per Pam Oliver of FOX, Shields is questionable with a knee injury.

The hapless, classless Green Bay Packers are about to be embarrassed in the playoffs.

The Time Outs called and other T.V. Time Outs look brutal for the players…….They run to the sidelines to get coats and be by the heaters faster than they do to get down the field……..

Nice field! Gives the ‘skins a run for their money.

I wouldn’t be so quick to fault Hyde on the 31 yarder to Crabtree. MD Jennings, who has been blowing coverages all year, was the 3rd guy covering Vernon Davis. I can’t imagine the defense called for both Safeties on Davis. It seem more likely Jennings was supposed to provide Hyde help over the top.

Just a guess but it sure seem plausible.

Hyde was a reach even as a 5th rounder, and for a team that didn’t have but 1 QB.

Packers already had a built in excuse since Fabio was out… But not shields hurt… I can already see fans leaving the stands. Especially with the 9’rs up 3-0 and driving.

I’m a Hawks fan and I’m rooting for the 9ers to win today and next week then on to Seattle. I want the 2 best teams in the nfl to play for the chance to go to the Super Bowl.

The Green Bay packers don’t deserve to be in the playoffs their team is terrible… Cold weather doesn’t give them talent I was so tired of hearing that crap even though I hate SF this should be an easy win…

  14. gergie1957 says: Jan 5, 2014 5:18 PM

Not to worry, The Refs are “letting them play”.

  15. thefiesty1 says: Jan 5, 2014 5:19 PM

What the hell does it take to get a holding call in the end zone? Homer officiating? Is it too cold for the official to pull is flag out of his pocket?

  16. oldschoolnflman says: Jan 5, 2014 5:20 PM

    “Letting them play”

Sorry Mr announcer, the whole point of pass interference is one team wasn’t let the other team play. That was a badno call that most likely cost 49ers 7 points and being up 10-0. Anything to keep the Golden Gay in the game I guess…

  17. tokyosandb1aster says: Jan 5, 2014 5:22 PM

But… but… what will happen to our defense now?

  18. garity says: Jan 5, 2014 5:24 PM

Rodgers stinking it up out there.

  19. jerrykill4pres says: Jan 5, 2014 5:24 PM

As hard as the 9’rs are getting after gay boy… He could suffer a career ending injury this game.

  20. hazelmn says: Jan 5, 2014 5:24 PM

Looks like it is not going to be”that” given Sunday. SF is thoroughly outplaying the Pack.

Winning the NFC North this year didn’t say much. It is not that division’s year to have a strong playoff run.

gb will go 3 and out again

  24. northstarnic says: Jan 5, 2014 5:34 PM

Refs keeping door open for the crappers. Eventually even a second rate team like the crappers will take advantage. NFL is shameless in its insistence on compromising the game’s integrity to play favorites

  25. emmac13 says: Jan 5, 2014 5:34 PM

I wonder where Anthony Davis was born and raised? Bet it was not as nice as Appleton, WI.

  26. emmac13 says: Jan 5, 2014 5:37 PM

Antony Davis tweeting about holes. HAHA. He sounds like one.

  27. Matt says: Jan 5, 2014 5:41 PM

Not so fast, Niner fans. Its obvious your coach taught you how to whine. Stay inside today, you fairies, the men are playing real football at a real stadium.

  28. jerrykill4pres says: Jan 5, 2014 5:42 PM

Did you just see Jordy Nelson do the lambeau leap, and one of the fans was grabbing him in the private area?

  29. jerrykill4pres says: Jan 5, 2014 5:45 PM

There was one, and his hand was kind of hidden… And then another guy’s hand was kinda over the top of it, but yep… Two dudes, grabbing and patting him in the private region!

Wow! Wisconsin is full of them!

  30. aldante66 says: Jan 5, 2014 6:27 PM

The packer d is really stepping it up, or I mean stepping in it.
Brilliant play calling by MM, two runs and a pass, two runs and a pass. Same thing last six games, no on has caught on

  31. gtodriver says: Jan 5, 2014 7:56 PM

Since when are football fields brown?

If you can’t maintain your field in cold weather you shouldn’t be hosting games.

  32. axespray says: Jan 5, 2014 8:03 PM

Bunch of annoying fair-weather whiner fans.

You’re taking on a team wiped out with injuries and you still whine.
