Shields exits early with lower leg injury

Shields

The Packers have dealt with plenty of injuries this year. Early in their playoff game against the 49ers, they have another.

Starting cornerback Sam Shields suffered a foot/ankle injury on San Francisco’s second play from scrimmage. Shields’ foot was pinned under a teammate while several Packers tried to tackle receiver Michael Crabtree.

Shields, according to Joe Buck of FOX, was in “a lot of pain coming off the field,” an exit that occurred during a commercial break.

The fourth-year pro missed two games during the regular season with a hamstring injury. His absence requires players like Micah Hyde and Davon House to step up.

Based on a 31-yard pass to Crabtree behind Hyde on fourth and short, Hyde has yet to.

UPDATE 5:06 p.m. ET: Shields has been carted to the locker room. Per Pam Oliver of FOX, Shields is questionable with a knee injury.
