Darrius Heyward-Bey expected to miss a week or so

The Colts signed veteran wide receiver Deion Branch on Monday, a move that caught plenty of attention with a game against the Patriots on the horizon.

There was more to the decision than just getting good dinner recommendations around Gillette Stadium from a former Super Bowl MVP who had his best days with your next opponent. Coach Chuck Pagano said Monday, via Mike Wells of ESPN.com, that wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is expected to miss a week or so because of a hamstring injury suffered against the Chiefs.

Heyward-Bey has seen his playing time on offense sharply reduced in recent weeks as the Colts have looked to Da’Rick Rogers, Griff Whalen and LaVon Brazill alongside T.Y. Hilton. He’s become a regular member of their special teams unit as a result and his absence was obviously concerning enough to the Colts that they added both Branch and Josh Lenz to the roster.

Pagano confirmed as much when he said the team felt a need for legs at receiver with Heyward-Bey out and added that he thinks Branch will have an “easy transition” to the Colts offense.

I’d be surprised if they activated Branch for the next game. They have enough bodies and the 2 injuries are going to be defensive positions that have to be replaced. Branch makes the 6th WR so he’s probably just emergency insurance in case they have one more injury in the next game.

I remember raider fans saying he was better than Crabtree… Not so much.

A week or so? It’s not like we’re in week 5 here, Chuck!

Can you imagine if a guy like anquan Boldin had this guy’s height and speed? Wasted.

DHB as a WR – not so much. That was obvious before the Colts picked him up. It’s only been emphasized during this season. BUT … the man has come through as a special teams beast and deserves his props for that.

Darrius Heyward-Bey probably got hurt while helping host News Years Eve in Times Square where his job was to drop the ball.

I wonder if Darrius “cement hands” Heyward-Bey knows the real reason he isn’t playing in the playoffs?

Can you make it 3-5 weeks, Darrius?

Jerry just go away and keep meddling with your billion dollar toy the Cowboys and keep preventing them from ever playing in the playoffs. You are doing a spectacular job.
