Maybe they should have a blackout scare more often at Lambeau Field.
With the Packers needing to sell tickets, the locals responded like the citizenry of Bedford Falls -- filling up the home stadium in record numbers, despite the bitter cold and an in-game wind chill warning.
According the BizJournals.com, a record crowd of 77,525 filled the seats surrounding the tundra for the last-second playoff loss to the 49ers.
Not bad for a game that wasn’t officially sold out until Friday.
Clearly, the lack of a sellout didn’t arise from a lack of interest. The Packers sent the postseason invoices to season-ticket holders in November, at which time a division title seemed like a long shot. Which meant that the Packers would have been holding their customers’ money, through and until the cash is applied to the first installment for the 2014 season tickets.
Apparently, the Packers believed that people who will pay $250 for a meaningless stock certificate also would be happy to give the team a no-interest loan. They weren’t.
Ultimately, they were thrilled to fill the stadium in record numbers, despite the elements.
