A collegiate coach who has led a rather remarkable turnaround will reportedly have a chance to interview for the Redskins’ head-coaching job.

The Redskins plan to meet with Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Monday.

The interview would be “likely” this week, Rapoport said.

The 42-year-old Franklin has helped lead Vanderbilt to a 24-15 record in three seasons. The Commodores have been to bowl games in all three of his seasons. Before Franklin’s arrival, Vanderbilt made a combined four bowl appearances in its history.

The majority of Franklin’s coaching experience has been on the collegiate level. However, he was the Packers’ assistant wide receivers coach in 2005. He then moved to offensive coordinator roles at Kansas State and Maryland before becoming Vanderbilt’s coach in 2011.

The Commodores were 9-4 in 2013. They ended their season with a victory against Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham on Saturday.
