The Bengals announced the signing of quarterback Greg McElroy to a reserve/future contract on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old McElroy spent the 2013 regular season on the Bengals’ practice squad. The Bengals kept just two quarterbacks on their roster in the regular season: starter Andy Dalton and backup Josh Johnson.

The Bengals have four quarterbacks under contract for 2014: Dalton, Johnson, McElroy and Zac Robinson.

An Alabama product, McElroy appeared in two regular-season games for the Jets in 2012, completing 19-of-31 passes for 214 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Jets waived him after the 2013 preseason.

The Bengals lead the league in ginger quarterbacks.

    Pre-Season Pro Bowler.

By that I mean he’s one of these guys who looks fantastic in games that don’t count, but when they get their shot in the regular season, they fall flat.

I fell victim to this myself. I posted comments on here at the beginning of this season before he was released saying I thought he was the best QB on the Jets roster.

I was wrong. This guy is Jason Garrett. He’ll possibly hang on for a bunch of years as a clip board carrier and then go into coaching, someday leading the Cowboys to three straight 8-8 seasons.

1 TD and 1 INT in 1 game. Those numbers are a lot better than Dalton’s last 2 games. 3TD’s 6 INT’s and 2 fumbles

This ain’t the first time this season the Bengals had him on the roster…a few people thought he was the reason the Bengals smoked the Jets so bad..

Good depth signing, but if you’re looking at this guy to start, your team is in trouble.

Tebow wins playoff games unlike Andy Dalton and this other ginger!
