The Bengals announced the signing of quarterback Greg McElroy to a reserve/future contract on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old McElroy spent the 2013 regular season on the Bengals’ practice squad. The Bengals kept just two quarterbacks on their roster in the regular season: starter Andy Dalton and backup Josh Johnson.

The Bengals have four quarterbacks under contract for 2014: Dalton, Johnson, McElroy and Zac Robinson.

An Alabama product, McElroy appeared in two regular-season games for the Jets in 2012, completing 19-of-31 passes for 214 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Jets waived him after the 2013 preseason.
