Keenan Lewis: I’m definitely playing

Cornerback Keenan Lewis left the Saints’ Wild Card win over the Eagles with a concussion in the third quarter, leaving the Saints to turn to the little-used Rod Sweeting at corner.

The Eagles promptly turned around a 20-7 deficit and briefly took a 24-23 lead before Shayne Graham won the game with a field goal. Payton told Mike Florio of PFT that Lewis was able to practice on Tuesday, but stopped short of ruling him in for Saturday’s game.

“Well, we’ve got a handful of guys that have played the position,” Payton said. “Sweeting played the other night, there’s some experience at corner with Malcolm Jenkins, Trevin Wade played the other night, hopefully Keenan will be able to go. He was able to get work today, he’s been cleared, so I think heading into this game there’s a good chance and we feel pretty good about where he’s at and with his status.”

Lewis also addressed the topic on Tuesday. He was more succinct than his coach.

“I’ll definitely be out there,” Lewis said, via the Baton Rouge Advocate. “I’ll be ready to go.”

Lewis is the best cornerback on the Saints roster right now and there’s not much need to go beyond that in explaining his importance to the defense. Barring setbacks in his recovery, it looks like the Saints will have him.

Glad to hear. The question is he gonna cover Baldwin, tate, harvin, kearse, or lockette?
I’m not trying to be a douche, but the saints don’t have the defense to stop Seattle. See 2010 playoffs, and week 13 game tape

He is really good, I give him respect for being one of the better cover CB in NFL. That being said the guys behind him are about as bad as it gets in the playoffs and that showed when he got hurt.

Saints are still down a Linebacker…
    Looking forward to the games.

Why the Steelers didn’t resign this guy is crazy. Instead they keep old and slow.

    Go Steelers!!!

Just make sure he turns around and runs away from beast mode and he will be ok.. He needs to full on sprint so that Lynch doesn’t punish him too much

Couldn’t cut it with the big boys in Pittsburgh. The league picks up our trash. We continue to be the standard of the NFL.

And the Seattle Seahawks collectively chuckle and yawn…

Lewis is the Steelers’ most significant free-agent loss since Rod Woodson. It’s criminal that he was never even offered a contract.

I hope the seahawk players are as overconfident as the fans sure seem to be.

Marshawn Lynch will throw him aside just like he did to Tracy Porter.

As a Saints fan I’m looking forward to this game. If we win, it’s great. If we lose, I hope we don’t get absolutely humiliated like last time.

Something tells me Payton and Ryan will have a lot of good stuff on display this weekend. But if Brees plays like he did against the Eagles, that’s not going to get it done. Throwing two bad interceptions against the Seahawks is not going to get the job done.

Man, I can’t stand Seattle fans !!! I could see Patriots, 49ers, Cowboys, Steelers, and G-Men fans being that way but NOT Seattle fans. C’Mon now, really what have the Seahawks ever won that enables their fan base to be sooooo arrogant ????????

I truly hope the seahawks take the saints lightly!!!lol….I do believe their goin to shut up seattle

Seahawks fans must sit at home in moms basement at the screen hitting refresh 24/7 just waiting on posts about their opponent. I’ve never seen so many trolls in my life from one team. It’s actually embarrassing.

If he doesn’t play his coach is likely to put a bounty on his head.

How many Pro Bowls have these wr that you mentioned been to? Sorry but nobody is afraid of your offense. 4 turnovers from the Cardinals and you still couldn’t win at home

    ==============================
Everyone that has a brain should know that run was way overrated… It was the final seconds of a playoff game and the Saints players were trying in vain to strip Marshawn of the ball (not tackle) as they knew it was over when he hit the red zone knowing the kicker has a chip shot… they were not trying to tackle Lynch on that run….lol

  22. jdegeneffe20639neemosacs says: Jan 8, 2014 10:46 AM

Your spot on. We didn’t even try to tackle Lynch. It was strip the ball get it back. We owe them one.
