The Giants will at least have a new offensive coordinator next season, and they might have some significant changes to the offensive parts.
But one of the guys who might be one of those changes said he didn’t think it had to be a big changes.
Pending unrestricted free agent wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said he didn’t think the Giants needed a drastic change in style to improve, even after quarterback Eli Manning threw career-high interceptions this year.
“I’m sure Eli will want to have the same system,” Nicks said, via Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. “He won’t want to change. It’s been working for us in the past.”
Nicks thought if candidate Mike Sullivan ends up with Kevin Gilbride’s old job, things will look familiar. But the Giants are also interviewing former Titans coordinator Dowell Loggains for the job, and there’s no certainty Nicks himself will be back.
Nicks said it was “important” to him to stay with the Giants, but left the requisite wiggle room.
“I understand the business side of things if that doesn’t happen,” he said. “We all know this is where I want to be.”
Of course, getting contract business taken care of early on, one way or another, will be a huge help for the Giants, after spending last season wondering when or if Victor Cruz and Nicks were going to show up.
