LaRon Landry returns to practice

The Colts didn’t have safety LaRon Landry at practice on Tuesday because he had yet to receive clearance in that stage of the league’s concussion protocol, creating some concern about whether he’d be able to progress through the program in time for Saturday’s game against the Patriots.

Those concerns have subsided a bit. Tom James of the Terre Haute Tribune-Star reports that Landry was taking part in practice on Wednesday, three days after he took a knee to the head against the Chiefs while making a tackle and then had a teammate congratulate him with an ill-timed slap to the side of the head. Landry left the game and did not return to the 45-44 Colts win.

Landry will have to pass further tests in order to get cleared to play on Saturday, something that should come unless he suffers symptoms of his concussion again after practice on Wednesday. Assuming he does, it will be a boost to a Colts defense that will need to be better in order to continue their playoff run for at least another week.

Kevin Bowen of the team’s website has the same report on Landry and adds that defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois was not participating in the portion of practice open to the media. Jean-Francois missed several games at the end of the regular season with a foot injury, but was in the lineup against Kansas City.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m. ET: Landry was listed as a full participant on the Colts’ injury report. Jean Francois was not on the injury report at all.
