Three more names added to Dolphins G.M. candidate list

The names keep coming as the Dolphins prepare their list of candidates for their vacant general manager job.

We’ve already heard that the team has already received permission to speak to Giants exec Marc Ross, Titans exec Lake Dawson and Browns exec Ray Farmer about the job. Now Albert Breer of NFL Network adds three more names to the list.

Per Breer, Steelers director of football administration Omar Khan and Cardinals V.P. of player personnel Jason Licht are expected to interview for the opening created by Jeff Ireland’s departure earlier this week. Breer also reports that Dolphins assistant general manager Brian Gaine is also going to interview for the next job up the ladder soon.

Like the previously reported candidates, Khan, Licht and Gaine have made the interview rounds as general manager jobs have opened up around the league in recent years without being tabbed. Their chance to change that starts when the Dolphins open the interview process on Friday.

I think they’ll end up promoting Brian Gaine when it’s all said and done.

    Who’s doing the interviewing?????

I’m hearing a lot of chatter locally about Eliot Wolf, Apparently he has a positive relationship with Philbin – and he has ties to South Florida being a UM Alum.

Don’t 4get the token interview as outlined by the Rooney rule .

Gabbert , I’m disappointed in you , jumping on the Fins haters’ band wagon. Don’tcha know us beleaguered Florida NFL fans need to stick together ? I’m predicting substantial improvement for the Jaguars next season ; that Gus Bradley seems to have injected some competitiveness into that franchise.

Florida teams could be on their way up again. A few weeks this season, all three of them lost. Seeing some improvements though.

With an organization as inept as the Dolphins, you have to start wondering when they will interview Mike Tannenbaum.

Brian Gaine gets my conspiracy theory vote.

First, we now have a power sharing coalition between Philbin and Apponte. They went directly to Ross and got Ireland’s job. To the victor goes the spoils. Brian Gaine is reputed to be a likable and competent man; liked by the victors. Philbin could mentor Gaine and end up with a willing co-worker desiring to stock the coach with the talent Philbin perceives as needed to succeed. Gaine would not be a threat to either the coach or the CFO.

Second, Gaine will work cheap. The Dolphins love cheap.

Third, Gaine already understands and accepts Apponte’s approach to the salary cap. Again, easy to work with and no threat.

Fourth, free agent signing and the draft are just around the corner. Gaine has probably already prepared to assist Ireland in completing meeting these deadlines. A new guy will have to start with the handicap of being the new guy with a new staff.

In view of Ross’s lack of preparation and subsequent late start looking for a new GM, Gaine would be a good fit if he will take a contract that ends at the same time Philbin’s contract ends. In this way, a veteran GM could be hired and allowed to bring in a completely new staff someday.

Sorry Dolphins the Raiders have the worst GM in the league and refuse to let him go!

As a Cardinal fan, I hope they pass on Licht. He has worked well with Keim and would hope to see them as a team for a few more years to come. Eventually however, his time will come and he will land a GM job.

Alonzo Highsmith or Brian Gutekunst from Green Bay should get a shot at GM.

    Jeff Van Gundy – GM
    Skip Bayless – OC
    Charles Barkley – OLC
Dennis Rodman – Richie Incognito advisor

With Khan they can guarantee another 8-8 season because that’s what the Steelers have worked so hard to achieve these last two years. Go Steelers (half the time)!

Or they can get the Raven’s GM and enjoy 3rd place in the division. Cheers!
