Titans confirm interview with Mike Zimmer

The Titans confirmed that they had interviewed Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for their head-coaching vacancy on Thursday.

Zimmer, 57, has overseen the Bengals’ defense for the last six seasons. He has also interviewed for the Vikings’ head-coaching vacancy. Zimmer has been a defensive coordinator in each of the last 14 NFL seasons, leading defenses in Dallas (2000-2006) and Atlanta (2007) before joining Cincinnati.

Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, who also interviewed for the Titans’ head-coaching job, was announced as the Redskins’ head coach on Wednesday.

The Titans fired head coach Mike Munchak on Saturday.

I say Gruden should have to take his hand picked QB with him. But Zimmer deserves to be a head coach somewhere. Unfortunately, with nobody to pull Giggles head out of his sphincter the Bengals window has now closed for 20 more years.

Someone needs to hire this guy, he’s a better coaching candidate than Jay Gruden, IMHO.

I hope zimmer stays put Cincy cannot afford to loose zimmer. The offense will be just fine without gruden if not better with Hue Jackson calling the offense

It’s the NFL you’re not supposed to treat all your players the same. Worked for jimmy Johnson

I would hire him. He would be my first choice.

Zimmer needs to stay put, although he does deserve a shot at a HC gig. Just don’t want him to leave Cincinnati!

Gruden? No big loss there! See ya!!

I hope Rick Spielman doesn’t over-think his coaching search and hires Zimmer before someone else does.

I mean… why tag the Vikings?

They’re collegiate level talent playing on a collegiate field.

    Nothing more.

The guy’s been a defensive coordinator and been passed over for a head coach job for quite a while… Maybe all these teams interviewing him see something we as fans can’t? He may just, not have it.

I had a coach once tell the team I was on “I will treat all of you fairly, but I won’t treat you equally.” He’s the coach, suck it up.

Does anyone doubt that Minnesota will be the last team to fill their coaching vacancy?

Waiting to wake up from the nightmare that is the redskins and see they hired zimmer instead of gruden. Ah, anytime now. Somebody wake me up please.

Admittedly I only know as much about Zimmer as I’ve seen on Hard Knocks & I know that the Bengals have had good defenses under Zimmer. Mostly the Bengals fans seem to like him so I’d be ok seeing Tennessee hire him since we have a lot of talent on the defense. However, I would really hope he hires an offensive coordinator that really knows what he’s doing & then keeps his hands off the offense. But I would assume that he’s smart enough to do that.

  24. thepvyharvin says: Jan 10, 2014 8:43 AM

Zimmer will stay in Cincy or go to Vikings if the deal is sweet enough(Vikings do go big to get their man usually)….Tenn. is a 100% non factor I’m willing to bet

    Mike Zimmer, welcome to Tennessee!
