Redskins never bothered canceling interviews after Gruden deal

Jay Gruden, Bruce Allen AP

Maybe the Redskins scheduled so many head coaching interviews they couldn’t keep up with them all.

Or maybe, they really are as dysfunctional as they appear from the outside.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Redskins never bothered canceling interviews with 49ers coordinators Greg Roman and Vic Fangio, which were scheduled for Thursday.

Which happened to be, you know, the day they hired Jay Gruden.

The 49ers are apparently displeased with this development, and they should be. While they were willing to allow guys time during a playoff game week to give themselves a chance to advance, having that turn into a waste of time is another thing.

And the lack of professional courtesy is another, which will likely be remembered.

UPDATE 12:40 p.m. ET:  The Redskins dispute the report.  ESPN has responded to the response.

Not surprised. The classless organizations in the NFL never win championships, regardless of how many good draft picks they may make. It’s the little things that count the most sometimes.

Snyder continues to amaze me. 49ers have every right to be upset at the Redskins. Even more so because 2 of their coaches were involved. Hopefully it doesn’t affect any preparations for their game against Carolina

I’ve been a die hard Redskin fan for the last 26 years or so but it’s getting really hard to keep rooting for this team

So the fact that they actually hired someone doesn’t give other candidates a clue they might not be getting the job?

Given Bruce Allens history with Jon Gruden, Its really no surprise they were going to hire Jay, Why even schedule the other interviews in the first place?

Burgundy and gold, come on over to the red and gold!

Yeah thekyle, they found out like everyone else. Don’t you think Washington had some sort of clue how the process was shaping up sometime BEFORE the rest of the general public?

Professional courtesy implies professionalism. So why would you expect it in this case?

Where ARE those Redskin fans who before the season began were bragging on their upcoming SB victory and ragging on everyone else? Come on, raise your hands after you get your heads out of the sand.

You people do realize a flight from Cali to dc is almost 6 hours, right? How are these guys supposed to “take a hint” from the hiring when they’re either already there, or on a plane en route?

Teams like Jets Giants Browns Cowboys Jags are all happy the Skins are a bigger joke like when all the so-so chicks loosen up after the ugly girl shows up at the party.

  17. bcfalcon says: Jan 12, 2014 1:19 PM

I am astounded by how much this team has become a joke under Dan Snyder and his cronies! You redskins fans don’t deserve this moron running your team into the ground when before the change of ownership it was a greatly respect organization!

They never scheduled the interviews you idiots. Even if they had, the interviews would have been conducted in San Fran, eagles fan!

As long as rg3 is the starting qb in Washington,
    THEY WILL BE LOSERS !

RG3 SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 5TH RND. PICK.

Skins need a new defensive coach. What are they thinking!!

  24. propertyofthebroncos says: Jan 12, 2014 4:24 PM

Not really surprised by this, Snyder is just running the organization into the ground but feels privileged so isn’t worried about others. I feel bad for Washington.

    ^^^^^
Sorry didn’t mean to say that but I honesty think this is non story. There were no interviews scheduled the Skins only asked for permission to talk to them.

The Panthers thought they could get a little edge so they offered the RedSkins a draft pick to get them pissed off. It did piss them off and they took it upon themselves to dominate the Panthers. Red Skins missed a chance to know 2 very good future HC whether it’s College or NFL.

Looks like there is a better than 50/50 chance that the coach wasn’t the problem.

But then when Zorn was there as the head coach, many of us already knew the biggest problems were from the front office….and not from Jim.

Just think of the Redskins as the Cowboys of the east coast! LOL!!! And of course, the Cowboys are just the Raiders of the south.
