Scifres saves touchdown, suffers injury

Another day, another injury to a punter in an AFC divisional round playoff game.

San Diego punter Mike Scifres has been shaken up after tripping up Broncos receiver Eric Decker, whose 47-yard return likely would have otherwise gone for a touchdown but for Scifres’ efforts.

It appeared that Scifres took a leg to the face while lunging to make the tackle.  He then held his lower back and walked gingerly off the field.

Also injured for the Chargers on the Broncos’ earlier drive was linebacker Manti Te’o, who absorbed a blow to a head from a teammate near the San Diego end zone.

Deckers left foot saved the touchdown, the punter had nothing to do with it.

Decker tripped over his own feet. Scifers didn’t do squat.

Manti has done a fairly decent job of shutting up both his hecklers and his critics. He isn’t the second coming of dick Butkus but he’s def serviceable

Would have been a touchdown if Rivers didn’t put a bolo-hex on Decker during his previous return. Decker tripped on his own feet. Coincidence? I think not.

Scifres didn’t save that TD. Yes he slowed Decker down but Decker got his footing back for a bit and then just got tripped up on his own. He’s done it before so it isn’t a surprise it happened again.

Probably best for San Diego that Te’o left the game. He was getting blown up out there

Agree with those above. Decker made the most important tackle for the Chargers so far this game.

He did the same thing last year; caught a bomb from Manning with nothing but green in front of him and no defender within five yards of him and he just tripped on his own feet. I remember it vividly because I started him on my fantasy team.

San Diego has really poor punt coverage. They are very slow down the field.

Te’o was heard talking to his imaginary friend in the huddle after the play.

What’s with all the thumbs down for the comments about Decker tripping over his own feet? Wasn’t it obvious to everyone that’s what happened?

Actually, I am surprised nobody blamed Manning for what happened.
