Will Tukuafu having MRI, Harbaugh “encouraged” with fullback’s movement

The 49ers saw fullback Will Tukuafu leave Sunday’s 23-10 victory over the Panthers after just a handful of snaps because of a left knee injury he suffered after catching a pass from Colin Kaepernick.

The injury looked bad when it happened, but Tukuafu was able to walk off the field with medical personnel a short time later. He didn’t return to the game, however, and is having an MRI Monday to assess the extent of the damage. Coach Jim Harbaugh had no update on his condition when he met the media, but did offer an optimistic observation.

"[I’m] encouraged with how he’s moving around,” Harbaugh said, via CSNBayArea.com.

The 49ers re-signed Tukuafu when they placed fullback Bruce Miller on injured reserve near the end of the regular season, so they may have to turn to Anthony Dixon and tight end Vance McDonald, who filled in against Carolina, again next weekend if Tukuafu doesn’t play.
