The Titans have their head coach in Ken Whisenhunt and it looks like they’ve already settled on an offensive coordinator to join his staff.
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com reports that John McNulty is “just about a sure thing” as the team’s next offensive coordinator. McNulty spent the 2013 season coaching the quarterbacks in Tampa, where he worked for his former boss at Rutgers Greg Schiano. McNulty was dismissed along with Schiano when the Bucs cleared house at the end of the regular season.
Before that, though, McNulty was the quarterbacks coach for the Cardinals when Whisenhunt was that team’s head coach and they thought highly enough of him that they refused to grant him permission to interview for the Bucs’ offensive coordinator job when Schiano filled out his first staff in 2012.
It’s not clear whether Whisenhunt, who called plays at points in his tenure with the Cardinals, or McNulty would call the plays for the Titans, but that’s a question that could get answered when Whisenhunt is formally introduced as the Titans coach at a Tuesday press conference.
