Browns add Mike Pettine to list of head-coaching interviews

Add Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to the list of candidates to be the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Pettine will interview on Thursday, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports.

The 47-year-old Pettine is a well-regarded defensive coach who has been mentioned as a potential head-coaching candidate in the past, but this is the first time he’s been identified as a candidate for the Cleveland vacancy. Pettine just completed his first season as the defensive coordinator in Buffalo after four years as the defensive coordinator of the Jets. He’s previously spent time as a linebackers and defensive line coach with the Ravens.

The Browns, who fired coach Rob Chudzinski at the end of the season, say they’ll take as long as necessary to identify the right coach. Pettine’s interview is the next step in that process.

He didn’t have much say in NY. In NY he focused on the secondary and that’s his strength really. I would give Pettine one more year in buffalo and see if he can repeat what he did this year before making him a HC candidate.

    Noooooooooo!!!

I’d rather keep him and fire Marrone!

This will hurt the Bills so much…they better give him a raise and change the title of his job from defensive coordinator to assistant head coach. This cannot happen so soon!

Don’t fret Bills fans, he’ll probably tell them “thanks but no thanks” after interviewing like all the other Brown HC candidates.

Looks like the Browns had absolutely no plan when they fired Chud. Replacing NFL head coaches is a little different then changing out urinals at a truck stop.

They were the first to fire their head coach and now the last to hire one. I can’t possible see how they will be able to piece together a better coaching staff then they had in 2013. Nobody is left.
