Cromartie thinks he’ll be a cap casualty

The report that Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie expects to be cut can now be confirmed.  By Cromartie himself.

Appearing in studio on NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk, Cromartie told Erik Kuselias that Cromartie expects to be a salary-cap casualty.

“I think I am just because my cap number is very high and I had one of the worst seasons of my career this past year,” Cromartie said.

“I was banged up,” Cromartie added.  “You know, I got hurt in Week Two but that’s not an excuse. You know, if I’m going to go out and go play every single week, I expect for myself to be playing at a high level and my teammates and my organization expects for me to be playing at a high level, so I never make excuses.  You know, I just had a bad year.  And that falls heavily on me and no one else.”

Cromartie is due to receive a $5 million roster bonus in March.  And that likely will be the trigger for the Jets to make a move.

Regardless, Cromartie wants to remain with the Jets.  Permanently.

“This is where I want to be, that’s where I want to retire,” Cromartie said.

Cromartie added that his excitement level regarding the news that coach Rex Ryan will return was 13 on a scale of one to 10, that Cromartie would have 1,600 yards receiving as a full-time wideout (he was joking . . . we think), and that if forced to choose between Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, Cromartie would take Manning.

Great player. One of the best when healthy. Hope he retires as a JET and goes into the hall as a JET. Gods team needs you next year for the run Cro!
