Jeff Tedford seems impressed with Mike Glennon

New Buccaneers offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford has had success with many different types of quarterbacks, from Aaron Rodgers to Akili Smith to David Carr.

So while he said Wednesday he’s still learning his new personnel, he did offer some praise to incumbent Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon.

Tedford didn’t promise Glennon the starting job, and noted his physical limitations, but seemed impressed with what Glennon was able to show his rookie year.

My first impression is he does a lot of good things,’’ Tedford said, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. “He’s a rookie, he took over in the fourth game. I think his growth and development, I saw some progression through the year with him. I think he’s got a lot of poise in the pocket. I don’t think he gets frustrated in the pocket.

“He’s pretty smart with the football. When things aren’t there, he’s throwing it away and making good decisions. Good decisions come in many forms, whether you’re trying to complete a pass, throw the football away, manage the clock, whatever it may be. I see a lot of real positive things with Mike and I’m really looking forward to getting to know him better, to be able to sit down and actually talk about things.’’

The Bucs have enough personnel issues to fix, that not having to go out and get a quarterback would certainly help them this offseason.

New head coach Lovie Smith has had success with less-than-Pro Bowl talent at the position (going to a Super Bowl with Rex Grossman), so perhaps Tedford’s apparent good first impression of Glennon is a sign.
