Mike Singletary to leave Vikings

Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary has served as assistant head coach and linebackers coach for the Minnesota Vikings for the last three seasons

Singletary will not return to the Vikings’ staff next season.

According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Singletary said Wednesday he will be moving on from the Vikings.

Singletary said he had planned for this year to be his last with Minnesota even before Leslie Frazier was fired as head coach just over two weeks ago.

I will be moving forward,” Singletary said. “I knew that this would be my last year as things were as linebackers coach. It’s time to move on. I just felt I had grown as much as I could here.”

Singletary expressed a desire to become a head coach once again or take a step back up the ladder as a defensive coordinator.

Singletary served parts of three seasons as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers before heading to Minnesota but has never served as a defensive coordinator. Singletary was promoted to interim head coach of the 49ers from his post as assistant head coach and linebackers coach after Mike Nolan was fired during the 2008 season.

I’m completely fine with him returning to Baltimore as a linebackers coach.

    Arthur Brown needs you.

Can’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to be on that sinking ship either.

Viking failure wears pretty thin after a while. I can’t blame Singletary.

Singletary is too classy for that organization anyway. Good move Mike.

He should become the bears defensive coordinator. That would be his ideal scenario. Fire Tucker and let’s get back to what the bears are known for, and that’s defense!

LOTS of Bears fans would LOVE for Samurai Mike to come back home and coach-up our talented but clueless young LBs. I doubt it happens though.

Good riddance Mike. You superior skills on the field didn’t transfer into coaching and developing. #disappointed

Judging by how dominant MN linebackers were this year, I would give this a resounding, “meh”.

Sing should stay linebackers coach. His time as HC with the Niners was a disaster. Let me elaborate. DISASTER. Anybody that wants to hire this guy as a DC, let alone as a HC, needs counseling…
