Jim Caldwell hoped to lure Baltimore Ravens secondary coach Teryl Austin to join him in Detroit as the Lions’ defensive coordinator.
Now it appears Caldwell has his man.
According to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News, Austin has agreed to join the Lions as Caldwell’s defensive coordinator.
Austin has coached with Caldwell at several stops along the way. The two worked together at Penn State when Austin was a graduate assistant, at Wake Forest and again with the Ravens for the last two seasons.
It’s Austin’s first chance to be a coordinator at the NFL level. Austin has spent most of his career serving as a defensive backs coach, though he did serve as the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida for one season in 2010.
