Senior Bowl rosters almost filled out

Shayon Green, Logan Thomas AP

As NFL fans focus on the playoffs in the days ahead, many coaches and evaluators will have their attention on the draft prospects gathered in Mobile, Alabama for the 2014 Senior Bowl.

Players report to Mobile on Saturday, and the vast majority of invitations to the game have been accepted. As of Wednesday, 52 players are listed on the South team roster, with 49 players listed on the North squad.

Five quarterbacks are confirmed for Mobile. Clemson’s Tajh Boyd, Miami’s Stephen Morris and Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas are the North passers. Meanwhile, the South has just two quarterbacks — Fresno State’s Derek Carr and San Jose State’s David Fales — so there would appear to be room for one more passer on the roster.

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who had been invited to the Senior Bowl, is out after suffering an ACL tear in November. Also, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron has declined to play in the game.

All six quarterbacks who attended the Senior Bowl last winter were drafted in April, including the Bills’ EJ Manuel, the lone passer selected in Round One.

AJ McCarron is an idiot for not playing, and I say that as a Bama fan. He has plenty of question marks regarding his NFL viability and passing on the Senior Bowl is no way to put those reservations to rest.

AJ won’t cut it in the NFL. No idea what he is thinking to decline

Mettenberger is injured too so perhaps they bring in Connor Shaw.

Man I hope Boyd or Fales is still available in the second round I don’t watch much college football but I saw a couple of Boyds games and he looked decent

It would be one thing if McCarron was a lock for the 1st rd, but he’s not. He would have helped his stock if he took part.

Connor Shaw (S.Carolina) should be invited…the guy is a winner

The best Shrine Game QB should be in.

Sio Moore and Terron Armstead we’re invited after they performed well in the East West shrine game last year. If he is the best quarterback in the shrine game this weekend, Jimmy Garrapolo, should be invited.

How does a player from a southern team end up on the North team?
