Art Rooney II wants Troy Polamalu to retire a Steeler

Safety Troy Polamalu is under contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers through next season.

If Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II gets his wish, Polamalu will remain with the team long after that.

Rooney said he wants Polamalu to “retire a Steeler” and fully sees the eight-time Pro Bowl selection and five-time All-Pro remaining in the black and gold.

“How we structure or restructure (Polamalu’s contract) is something we will look at in the next few months,” Rooney said, via Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle, but I certainly expect Troy will be one of the pieces to that puzzle. … He’s obviously been one of the great Steelers of all time.”

The Steelers have several players with large cap hits over the next several seasons. However, when the ownership group says they want to keep a player around it tends to happen more often than not.

Troy has been a great Steeler for a long time. This is really a no brainer of an action to complete.

I got a number for a real good optometrist if your interested. Also football was played by Troy before you started watching so you missed a lot only having watched last season.

Polamalu is coming off his eighth Pro Bowl season in 11 years. No other player on the Steelers’ roster can match Polamalu’s high-level of consistency, and should the Rooneys demand he take a paycut, he should tell them to go pound salt, just as James Harrison did.
If someone needs to take a reduced salary for the good of the team. that someone should be the highest paid player on the team, not a player coming off his EIGHTH Pro Bowl season.

Restructure a two year deal for 17 million. 8 and a half for each year. Done.

One of the best safeties ever to play in the NFL!!

(As a Pats fan, I HATED HIM!!! LOL)

One measure of greatness is—- has this player altered the way the game is played?

No doubt the way 43 played the ‘game’ has changed the way future safteys will play the ‘game’.

Just as John Unitas is considered by many to be one of the best QB’s ever (not by his statistics, although good not great) it was because he changed the way the QB position was played, so too will Troy be hallmarked in the history of the ‘game’!

    STEELER for life!

One of the best to ever play the game! Steeler for life! Ravens only wish they had a pro bowl safety the caliber of Troy. Just ask Flacco how good he is

This just shows what kind of organization pittsburgh really is a great one. What is great its the raven fans that are chirping about how bad he is. Didnt he single Handley send you guys home in the afc championship game with the strip sack and a crucial int against flacco I do believe he did. How could you ever have something bad to say about Troy. He had 2 bad games this year against Brady and megatron but 2nd have of that game lights out for megatron. So he still playing at a high level sorry that your franchise let your hof safety go. Ratbirds your time has ended sorry but you better be worried about the browns over taking you for 3rd place next year. Ray rice done, your qb is avg at best.

Ed Reed was released and is washed up, tainting his career status.

Troy solidified his 1st ballot HOF status this past season.

Ed is a bum and Troy is a Pro Bowler.

Troy was excellent for us a few years ago but needs to retire. However, until Colbert can fix that secondary, Troy will remain a Steeler and on the field.

Troy won’t go out backwards like Ed Reed did..Still Maken pro bowls while Ed is unemployed..Its gona be a Veteran to take his spot when the time come..maybe a free agent or a draft pick trade..Im hopen Shamarko can find his way
