Jets running back Mike Goodson was in a Morristown, New Jersey courtroom on Wednesday to enter a not guilty plea at an arraignment on weapons charges stemming from a May arrest.
Goodson was arrested early in the morning of May 17 when he and another man were found stopped in the middle of an interstate. Police found both men to be intoxicated and discovered a handgun in the glove compartment of the car.
Goodson had previously entered the same plea before a grand jury handed down an indictment on a second-degree charge of unlawful possession of a handgun and a fourth-degree charge for possession of a hollow point bullet and the New York Daily News reports that his lawyer said Goodson also rejected a plea deal offered by prosecutors.
Had Goodson accepted the deal, he would have faced a one-year prison sentence. If convicted of the second-degree charge, Goodson faces a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years in jail.
Goodson served a four-game suspension as a result of the incident and then tore his ACL and MCL in his second game back with the team.
