Malcom Floyd suffered a disc injury in his neck that ended his season in Week Two against the Philadelphia Eagles. But Floyd is still hopeful it didn’t end his career as well.

Floyd left the field in Philadelphia on a stretcher after being sandwiched between two defenders. The injury Floyd suffered could be career-ending, but players have returned to the field from similar injuries before.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Floyd is still holding out hope that he’ll be one to overcome the odds.

I definitely want to play again,” Floyd said. “I definitely do. I’m getting better steadily, and if my body allows me to play, I’m going to do it. I’m really excited for our team. I want to add some more firepower. ... If not, then yeah, I need to hang it up. It won’t do anything positive. It won’t help out me or the team.

Floyd says he’s still wearing a neck brace to bed and feels ongoing pain from the injury. But Floyd feels he’s making progress in his rehab. He hopes to rejoin his teammates and feels he can still contribute to the Chargers’ offense. However, he won’t risk it it’s not in the cards.

“I want to play,” Floyd said. “I think I can still do it. I feel like I can still go out there and make plays. I’m confident, but at the same time, I have to make sure I’m healthy.”
