Titans tab Jason Michael as offensive coordinator

2013-Michael-Jason

The Titans have hired Chargers tight ends coach Jason Michael as offensive coordinator, the club announced Friday evening.

Michael, 35, had coached the Chargers’ tight ends for the last three seasons, and he worked with new Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt in San Diego in 2013.

“Jason really impresses me with his knowledge of the run and pass game and he was a big part of putting together our plans last year in San Diego,” Whisenhunt said of Michael in a statement issued by the Titans. “He is very familiar with the offensive system that we want to implement here, which includes bits and pieces from a number of offensive systems. He is intelligent and a good communicator. He was responsible for presenting a couple of game-plan packages to our offense each week and he was impressive.”

Michael, who played at quarterback at Western Kentucky, has also had stints as an assistant with the Raiders, Jets and 49ers.

Jason will hate me for saying this, but he looks like Philip Rivers.

If he could only take the play calling away from Whisenhunt for any meaningful games, the Titans might actually stand a chance. While Whisenhunt may do a good job of putting an offense together, his history of brain freeze in big games is legendary.

Watch out, titans, I wouldn’t trust a guy with two first names.
