49ers had molded ear plugs made for Sunday’s game

During the week, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh hinted that the strategy for dealing with the noise at CenturyLink Field wouldn’t try to hear over the din created by the 12th man.

Apparently, the goal will be to block it out completely.  Per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the 49ers brought in an audiologist to fit each player with molded earplugs.

But Pam Oliver of FOX Sports reported prior to kickoff that tackle Joe Staley said that each player will make an individual decision whether to use them.

Regardless, it’s obvious that the 49ers will be communicating mainly through some of the non-verbal methods Harbaugh identified:  “signals, hand signals, verbal signals, body language, reading lips.”
