Mike Mularkey to take job with Titans rather than Vikings

New York Giants v Jacksonville Jaguars Getty Images

Former Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey had options after taking a year off.

And he has apparently decided to stay in the AFC South.

According to Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com, Mularkey has told the Vikings he was taking a job with the Titans, after talking to both teams.

Mularkey will either coach quarterbacks or tight ends on Ken Whisenhunt’s staff, under offensive coordinator Jason Michael.

There’s plenty of work to do on that side of the ball, as figuring out the quarterback position is one of the biggest priorities there.

Clearly Mularkey believes the Titans have a much better chance of winning a championship in the 21st century than the Vikings do.

    He’s right.

    Can you blame him?

Makes sense, the Titans won’t be going to the Superbowl anytime soon but its still a better chance than the Vikings who basically have no shot.

That’s got to be awkward for the Vikings, everyone knows older people like to go to the Vikings, like Longwell, Jennings, and Favre.

The Vikings already tabbed Norv Turner’s son Scott Turner as the QB coach. So my guess is that Zimmer offered him the Vikings TE job and Whiz offered him the Titans QB job.

Man is he going to have two certain games circled on his schedule every season he’s in Tennessee. Too bad he went to Tennessee.

  7. mmmpierogi says: Jan 19, 2014 2:09 PM

Almost makes some sense given that Mularkey and Whisenhunt overlapped in Pittsburgh for a few years (Whisenhunt was tight ends coach while Mularkey was OC; Whisenhunt took over as OC over Mularkey left for Buffalo).

what channel are the packers on today? i mean they did play one more game than the houston texans

  9. darkneptune73 says: Jan 19, 2014 2:23 PM

How are the Jake Locker-led Titans any better than the AP-led Vikings?

Titans are no closer to winning the championship than the Vikings are. Quit it with the nonsense.

That’s just malarkey.. AP’s going to definitely want a trade now!

Don’t know about Mularkey but I think Whisenhunt picked Tenn over Det because the weather is better there and the city better.

So knowing Minnesota weather and the Twin Cities (I am a native) I’d like to hand it to Mike Zimmer and Norv Turner for going to MN – even having to play two seasons outdoors – that will be fun!

i wonder how many yards rodgers will throw for today? my guess is zero. he’s filming more ads

What time do the Vikings play, oh that’s right they have been out of the playoff hunt since week 3, it can go both ways moron except the Packers actually made the Playoffs

  14. coltzfan166 says: Jan 19, 2014 2:43 PM

I’d much rather live in Nashville than Minnesota too. Nice weather in Nashville. Ridiculously cold weather in Minneapolis.

  15. buffaloviking says: Jan 19, 2014 3:03 PM

Big deal the packers made the playoffs. Where are they now. I see they are in the same place as the other 28 teams that are. Get over it.

That’s not mularkey, that’s Kevin Costner

  17. jjh1982 says: Jan 19, 2014 3:18 PM

The point is you morons keep saying the same thing over and over again about the Packers but the Vikings were not even close to making the playoffs or winning the division but yet here you all are flapping your gums, Vikings fans need to get over the fact there team sucks right now and are a lot worse than the Packers are right now, so until you accomplish something keep quite

  18. deltaoracle says: Jan 19, 2014 3:48 PM

And the two teams in the Super Bowl will play three or four more games than the Texans or Vikings. So…?

    Nashville, or MN?

    Easy choice.

nashville and green bay, two places where carrying a banjo and having no teeth are the norm

  22. stellarperformance says: Jan 20, 2014 10:02 AM

Mularkey took an undetermined job, any job, with the Titans…rather than the Vikings. He didn’t want to be saddled to two old coaches. These guys are so old they think Eisenhower has a chance to beat Hillary.

Sometimes, all you need to know is that you’ll never be “that bad” to put a huge smile on your face.

  27. diveleft says: Jan 21, 2014 1:14 PM

Very ironic that Packer fans make bad jokes about men wearing dresses, when you realize who and/or what their QB is.
